Jacob Ostens was born in Utrecht, probably in 1630. He was the man who brought Lambert van Velthuysen into contact with Spinoza: Ep42, written on January 24, 1671 and containing a very early critical analysis of the TTP, was composed by Van Velthuysen and addressed to Ostens who passed it on to Spinoza.
