Tuesday January 3 1681[/2]. There are very great Gameings and Revellings this Christmas in the Inner Temple many of the great Ministers of State thought fit to do them the honour with them on Saturday, and severall other Noblemen as the Lord Hallifax. the Lord Hyde and both Secretaries of State, Sir Lionell Jenkins, Lord Conway &c, The Earle of Abermarle, The Duke of Grafton, Earle of Clarendon &c. The Revellers Addrest afterwards to his Majestie. A Court of Aldermen was called last Lords day in the morning by the Lord Mayor many appearing at it. After a while hee told them it was called then by a Mistake &c. Many young Gentlemen and Gentlewomen of note sick of the Small Pox. Yesterday a new Order [P322] with directions from the King and the Board to suppresse all Conventicles &c and the Justices have thereupon drawne up generall Warrants to be sent out to all Constables &c. I heare of no Meetings disturbed last Lords day but only Mr. Reades
December 14 many Justices &c being very importunate there was an Order made by the Counsell Table (not printed nor given out) for the Suppression of Conventicles now they have a coppy of it whereupon the Lord Mayor had the Instructions above-mentioned. Upon this Order the Justices at Hicks hall have issued out new Warrants to all Constables to take the names of all that Preach at Conventicles, and of the most conspicuous frequenters of them, and the places where they are kept &c and to make returnes thereof at the next Quarter Sessions, a Coppy of this new Order the Justices Printed on Monday. There has been some debate, and it's verily believed a resolution taken to call a Parliament this spring. The Earle of Argile is not yet found, but his Execution in effigie is ordered and done.
Thursday January 12 1681[/2]. Mr. Graham of the court went on Saturday morning speedily into 〈Scotland〉 and hee is to returne in as few dayes as is possible. Mr. [blank] Chidley (formerly Secretary to the Treaty at Nemagan) a Deavonshire man went towards Holland on Saturday morning last.
