page 206 note 1 Here it may be noted that amongst the numerous inscribed stones found in Scotland, not one can be definitely assigned to the Flavian or the Trajanic periods—a considerable hiatus, if we are to assume that the Flavian occupation was prolonged down to the end of Trajan's principate, viz., 79/80–117 = 37 years.
