1 Need Tzetzes' phrase (νεαν⋯σκος τ⋯ς αὐλ⋯ς) refer to C.'s first position at Court (of which incidentally we know nothing)? Is it conceivable that C., while engaged at the library, was enrolled in the Royal Corps of νεαν⋯σκοι for purposes of pay? Another remark of Tzetzes (νεαν⋯αι ⋯σαν Καλλ⋯μαχος κα⋯ Ἐρατοσθ⋯νης), and the famous ἔφηβον ἔτι ⋯ντα in the Vit. Apollon., may perhaps have the same application.
