References

1 In drawing attention to brachia (95. 2) I hold a candle to my own shame ([Ov.] Hal. 37); sicariosam (37. 1) and confrigito (81) are misprints; melipontos (68; cf. 12) seems to be sheer inadvertence.

2 On p. 301 we are referred to G. Boissier, Promenades archéologiques: Rome et Pompéi (1880) and to L. Muratori, Thesaurus nouus ueterum inscriptionum (1739–65) for certain epigraphic evidence! G. has a misleading habit of referring to the interlocutors in Varro's de re rust, as if they were independent authorities.
