The gum leaf skeletonizer, Uraba lugens, and its hosts: Possible selection of strains of insects that are able to feed on resistant trees
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 19 September 2011
Abstract
The marked differences in the suitability of different Eucalyptus spp. for growth of the larvae of Uraba lugens was further investigated. It is suggested that non-iarval food-plants and poor larval food-plants regularly selected as ‘egg hosts’ may provide a substrate for the development of resistant strains or biotypes assuming the occurrence of matings between individuals that survive and genetic basis for survival in such difficult food-plants.
