References

1 To be more exact: the yardstick which Rossi would like to apply is (art. cit., p. 267), out of 375 cases, applicable only in 224, violated in 38 and not applicable in the remaining 113.

2 This meaning of the adjective νηκερδής should not be confused (as Fränkel does, p. 192) with the type νηκερδῆ πόνον, where νηκερδής = ‘erfolglos’.

3 Kingston, who does not seem to be familiar with Hellenistic epic technique and Sprachgebrauch, repeats Fränke's error (Ox. Pap. 2699, on Arg. iii 15: ‘Fränkel … is nearer the truth’).
