2014 Centennial Center Endowment Fund Recipients

APSA established the Centennial Center for Political Science and Public Affairs to encourage individual research and writing in all fields of political science, to facilitate collaboration among scholars working within the discipline and across the social and behavioral sciences and humanities, and to promote communication between scholars and policymakers.

The Center assists scholars from the United States and abroad whose research and teaching would benefit from a stay in Washington, D.C. and access to the incomparable resources that are available in the nation’s capital. Additionally, the Centennial Center periodically sponsors events that bring together the scholarly community, policy makers, the media, and general public for discussions of broad interest.

ARRANGEMENT

The Center hosts up to ten scholars for extended periods of time, ranging from weeks to months. Space for shorter “drop-in” stays is also available. Scholars are expected to pursue their own research and teaching projects and contribute to the intellectual life of the residential community by sharing their work with Center colleagues in occasional informal seminars.

Located within the Association’s headquarters building near Dupont Circle, with easy access to the Washington Metro system, the Center offers visiting scholars furnished work space, telephone, fax, personal computers, Internet connection, conference space, a reference library, and library access at the George Washington University. Scholars are responsible for securing their own housing, but the Center will make every effort to assist scholars in locating suitable accommodations.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility is limited to APSA members. Senior or junior faculty members, post-doctoral fellows, and advanced graduate students are strongly encouraged to apply.

APPLICATION

A short application form is required and submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis. Positions are awarded on a space availability basis, with major consideration given to the strength of the project proposal and successful external funding to support time in Washington.

Applicants accepted for Visiting Scholar positions, with or without supplemental Center funding, will be notified in the month following receipt of their application. The Center will contact applicants confirming their selections and they will be required to prepare a schedule for residence within four weeks of notification, confirming dates of their stay.
