1 I found only two misprints: ‘make’ for ‘makes’ (p. 55, 1. 19) and ‘wordly’ for ‘worldly’ (p. 312, 1. 59). Perhaps ‘set’ (p. 121, 1. 325) for ‘appositi’ is merely a misprint for what Erasmus surely meant: ‘fit.’
2 The Latin will enable the reader to appreciate the translator's skill: ‘Vix egressus sum diuersorium quoddam, quod est medio ferine spatio inter Rusellam et Gandauum, cum equus meus visis pannis aliquot humi stratis consternatur, dumque inflexus paro nescio quid dicere ministro, rursum territus equus in diuersum fertur, atque ita distorquet imam dorsi spinam vt repente magnis clamoribus cruciatum intolerabilem testari cogerer. Conor ex equo descendere, non possum; minister manibus exceptum deponit; saeuit dolor mollis explicandus verbis, maxime si corpus inflexissem. Erectus minus affligebar, sed tamen ipse me non poteram erigere semel incuruatus. Eram illic in agris, nulla diuersoria nisi frigidissima et rusticissima, et aberam a Gandauo sex maximis passuum milibus. Sensi ambulatione minus saeuire malum, et tamen longius erat iter quam vt vel a sano pedibus confici posset.
