There are those artists who disarm one's critical faculties and to whom a sense of personal gratitude governs all one's attitudes. So far as the present writer is concerned, Beecham was one of that number; to pretend, therefore, that these notes are other than subjective appreciation (an opportunity to bid farewell to a departed hero) would be not only dishonest but so transparently so as to add stupidity to deceit.
