When this article was originally published in Epidemiology and Infection it contained an error in part of the paper which highlighted the organization who performed the validation studies. This section should read:

“Validation studies on the onion samples were also conducted by the CFIA Laboratory to determine the potential for inhibition of growth/survival of Salmonella in onions”
