We study the turnpike phenomenon for optimal control problems with mean-field dynamics that are obtained as the limit $N\rightarrow \infty$ of systems governed by a large number $N$ of ordinary differential equations. We show that the optimal control problems with large time horizons give rise to a turnpike structure of the optimal state and the optimal control. For the proof, we use the fact that the turnpike structure for the problems on the level of ordinary differential equations is preserved under the corresponding mean-field limit.

We prove the stability with respect to the flux of solutions to initial – boundary value problems for scalar non autonomous conservation laws in one space dimension. Key estimates are obtained through a careful construction of the solutions.

In this article we are interested in the rigorous construction of WKB expansions for hyperbolic boundary value problems in the strip $\mathbb{R}^{d-1}\times [0,1]$. In this geometry, a new inversibility condition has to be imposed to construct the WKB expansion. This new condition is due to selfinteraction phenomenon which naturally appear when several boundary conditions are imposed. More precisely, by selfinteraction we mean that some rays can regenerated themselves after some rebounds against the sides of the strip. This phenomenon is not new and has already been studied in Benoit (Geometric optics expansions for hyperbolic corner problems, I: self-interaction phenomenon, Anal. PDE9(6) (2016), 1359–1418), Sarason and Smoller (Geometrical optics and the corner problem, Arch. Rat. Mech. Anal.56 (1974/75), 34–69) in the corner geometry. In this framework the existence of such selfinteracting rays is linked to specific geometries of the characteristic variety and may seem to be somewhat anecdotal. However for the strip geometry such rays become generic. The new inversibility condition, used to construct the WKB expansion, is a microlocalized version of the one characterizing the uniform in time strong well-posedness (Benoit, Lower exponential strong well-posedness of hyperbolic boundary value problems in a strip (preprint)). It is interesting to point here that such a situation already occurs in the half space geometry (Kreiss, Initial boundary value problems for hyperbolic systems, Comm. Pure Appl. Math.23 (1970), 277–298).

In this paper, we first discuss the well-posedness of linearizing equations, and then study the stability and unstability of the 3-D compressible Euler Equation, by analysing the existence of saddle point. In addition, we give the existence of local solutions of the compressible Euler equation.

It is well known that grid discontinuities have significant impact on the performance of finite difference schemes (FDSs). The geometric conservation law (GCL) is very important for FDSs on reducing numerical oscillations and ensuring free-stream preservation in curvilinear coordinate system. It is not quite clear how GCL works in finite difference method and how GCL errors affect spatial discretization errors especially in nonsmooth grids. In this paper, a method is developed to analyze the impact of grid discontinuities on the GCL errors and spatial discretization errors. A violation of GCL cause GCL errors which depend on grid smoothness, grid metrics method and finite difference operators. As a result there are more source terms in spatial discretization errors. The analysis shows that the spatial discretization accuracy on non-sufficiently smooth grids is determined by the discontinuity order of grids and can approach one higher order by following GCL. For sufficiently smooth grids, the spatial discretization accuracy is determined by the order of FDSs and FDSs satisfying the GCL can obtain smaller spatial discretization errors. Numerical tests have been done by the second-order and fourth-order FDSs to verify the theoretical results.

In this paper, we present a superconvergence result for the bi-k degree time-space fully discontinuous finite element of first-order hyperbolic problems. Based on the element orthogonality analysis (EOA), we first obtain the optimal convergence order of discontinuous Galerkin finite element solution. Then we use orthogonality correction technique to prove a superconvergence result at right Radau points, which is higher one order than the optimal convergence rate. Finally, numerical results are presented to illustrate the theoretical analysis.

A new set of boundary conditions has been derived by rigorous methods for the shallow water equations in a limited domain. The aim of this article is to present these boundary conditions and to report on numerical simulations which have been performed using these boundary conditions. The new boundary conditions which are mildly dissipative let the waves move freely inside and outside the domain. The problems considered include a one-dimensional shallow water system with two layers of fluids and a two-dimensional inviscid shallow water system in a rectangle.

A construction of multiple knot B-spline wavelets has been given in [C. K. Chui and E. Quak, Wavelet on a bounded interval, In: D. Braess and L. L. Schumaker, editors. Numerical methods of approximation theory. Basel: Birkhauser Verlag; (1992), pp. 57-76]. In this work, we first modify these wavelets to solve the elliptic (partially) Dirichlet boundary value problems by Galerkin and Petrov Galerkin methods. We generalize this construction to two dimensional case by Tensor product space. In addition, the solution of the system discretized by Galerkin method with modified multiple knot B-spline wavelets is discussed. We also consider a nonlinear partial differential equation for unsteady flows in an open channel called Saint-Venant. Since the solving of this problem by some methods such as finite difference and finite element produce unsuitable approximations specially in the ends of channel, it is solved by multiple knot B-spline wavelet method that yields a very well approximation. Finally, some numerical examples are given to support our theoretical results.
