The Von Mises quasi-linear second order wave equation, which completely describes an irrotational, compressible and barotropic classical perfect fluid, can be derived from a nontrivial least action principle for the velocity scalar potential only, in contrast to existing analog formulations which are expressed in terms of coupled density and velocity fields. In this article, the classicalHamiltonian field theory specifically associated to such an equation is developed in the polytropic case and numerically verified in a simplified situation. The existence of such a mathematical structure suggests new theoretical schemes possibly useful for performing numerical integrations of fluid dynamical equations. Moreover it justifies possible new functional forms for Lagrangian densities and associated Hamiltonian functions in other theoretical classical physics contexts.

Realization of the Shan-Chen multiphase flow lattice Boltzmann model is considered in the framework of the higher-order Galilean invariant lattices. The present multiphase lattice Boltzmann model is used in two-dimensional simulation of droplet collisions at high Weber numbers. Results are found to be in a good agreement with experimental findings.

In this paper we study a non-linear elliptic equation involving p(x)-growth conditions and satisfying a Neumann boundary condition on a bounded domain. For that equation we establish the existence of two solutions using as a main tool an abstract linking argument due to Brézis and Nirenberg.

We study a partial differential equation on a bounded domain $\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^N$ with a $p(x)$-growth condition in the divergence operator and we establish the existence of at least two nontrivial weak solutions in the generalized Sobolev space $W_0^{1,p(x)}(\Omega)$. Such equations have been derived as models of several physical phenomena. Our proofs rely essentially on critical point theory combined with corresponding variational techniques.
