Summary

El camino a este libro ha sido largo, y algunas de las ideas que en él se encuentran fueron primero formuladas y presentadas en distintos congresos y artículos. La semilla del primer capítulo se encuentra en mi artículo “History of a Bite: Cleopatra in Thirteenth-Century Castile”, publicado en La corónica 40 (2011): 5–32, y la del segundo en “Historiar el Oriente: Cleopatra en la historiografía española del XVI”, publicado en eHumanista 17 (2011): 286–310. La sección del capítulo tercero dedicada a Alonso de Castillo Solórzano fue primero esbozada en “De Cleopatra y mecenazgos: la Historia de Marco Antonio y Cleopatra de Alonso de Castillo Solórzano (Zaragoza, 1639)”, en Compostella Aurea. Actas del VIII Congreso de AISO. Santiago de Compostela, 7–11 de julio de 2008. Ed. Antonio Azaustre Galiana y Santiago Fernández Mosquera. Vol. 2. Se ha optado por modernizar la grafía, acentuación y puntuación de las citas procedentes de manuscritos y obras impresas anteriores a 1800, a excepción de aquellas citas procedentes de obras editadas a partir de 1800 que siguen la grafía, acentuación y puntuación originales.
