Conclusions:

If these females were genetically dominant for the white colour and carried it in a homozygous condition all the chicks should have been white in colour. All the chicks were of a black colour and showed the typical appearance of a pure bred Australorp bird. The reciprocal matings were also made giving the same results.

Leghorn chickens three weeks old received a diet deficient in vitamin A and showed the first macroscopic epithelial changes after an average of 33 days. The histology of the epithelial changes, Which resembled those in the rat, and of the curative process, on administration of vitamin A, is described.

Experiments indicate:

1. 1. That this disease does not decrease egg production.

2. 2. That it does not decrease the percentage of hatchability of fertile eggs.

3. 3. That there is no great difference in the percentage of chick losses between the offspring of reactors and non-reactors to the pullorum test.

4. 4. That since the percentage of reactors in these trials decreased oonsiderably, there is a possibility that resistance to pullorum disease may be developed by breeding.

5. 5. That a considerable number of reacting hens come from nonreacting dams, and that on the other hand many non-reactors come from reacting dams.
