We continue our study from Peterzil et al. (2022, Preprint, arXiv:2208.08293) of finite-dimensional definable groups in models of the theory $T_{\partial }$, the model companion of an o-minimal ${\mathcal {L}}$-theory T expanded by a generic derivation $\partial $ as in Fornasiero and Kaplan (2021, Journal of Mathematical Logic 21, 2150007).

We generalize Buium’s notion of an algebraic D-group to ${\mathcal {L}}$-definable D-groups, namely $(G,s)$, where G is an ${\mathcal {L}}$-definable group in a model of T, and $s:G\to \tau (G)$ is an ${\mathcal {L}}$-definable group section. Our main theorem says that every definable group of finite dimension in a model of $T_\partial $ is definably isomorphic to a group of the form

for some ${\mathcal {L}}$-definable D-group $(G,s)$ (where $\nabla (g)=(g,\partial g)$).

We obtain analogous results when T is either the theory of p-adically closed fields or the theory of pseudo-finite fields of characteristic $0$.

In this paper, together with the preceding Part I [10], we develop a framework for tame geometry on Henselian valued fields of characteristic zero, called Hensel minimality. It adds to [10] the treatment of the mixed characteristic case. Hensel minimality is inspired by o-minimality and its role in real geometry and diophantine applications. We develop geometric results and applications for Hensel minimal structures that were previously known only under stronger or less axiomatic assumptions, and which often have counterparts in o-minimal structures. We prove a Jacobian property, a strong form of Taylor approximations of definable functions, resplendency results and cell decomposition, all under Hensel minimality – more precisely, $1$-h-minimality. We obtain a diophantine application of counting rational points of bounded height on Hensel minimal curves.

We present some results related to Zilber’s Exponential-Algebraic Closedness Conjecture, showing that various systems of equations involving algebraic operations and certain analytic functions admit solutions in the complex numbers. These results are inspired by Zilber’s theorems on raising to powers.

We show that algebraic varieties which split as a product of a linear subspace of an additive group and an algebraic subvariety of a multiplicative group intersect the graph of the exponential function, provided that they satisfy Zilber’s freeness and rotundity conditions, using techniques from tropical geometry.

We then move on to prove a similar theorem, establishing that varieties which split as a product of a linear subspace and a subvariety of an abelian variety A intersect the graph of the exponential map of A (again under the analogues of the freeness and rotundity conditions). The proof uses homology and cohomology of manifolds.

Finally, we show that the graph of the modular j-function intersects varieties which satisfy freeness and broadness and split as a product of a Möbius subvariety of a power of the upper-half plane and a complex algebraic variety, using Ratner’s orbit closure theorem to study the images under j of Möbius varieties.

We present a framework for tame geometry on Henselian valued fields, which we call Hensel minimality. In the spirit of o-minimality, which is key to real geometry and several diophantine applications, we develop geometric results and applications for Hensel minimal structures that were previously known only under stronger, less axiomatic assumptions. We show the existence of t-stratifications in Hensel minimal structures and Taylor approximation results that are key to non-Archimedean versions of Pila–Wilkie point counting, Yomdin’s parameterization results and motivic integration. In this first paper, we work in equi-characteristic zero; in the sequel paper, we develop the mixed characteristic case and a diophantine application.

We consider G, a linear algebraic group defined over $\Bbbk $ , an algebraically closed field (ACF). By considering $\Bbbk $ as an embedded residue field of an algebraically closed valued field K, we can associate to it a compact G-space $S^\mu _G(\Bbbk )$ consisting of $\mu $ -types on G. We show that for each $p_\mu \in S^\mu _G(\Bbbk )$ , $\mathrm {Stab}^\mu (p)=\mathrm {Stab}\left (p_\mu \right )$ is a solvable infinite algebraic group when $p_\mu $ is centered at infinity and residually algebraic. Moreover, we give a description of the dimension of $\mathrm {Stab}\left (p_\mu \right )$ in terms of the dimension of p.

We study the generic theory of algebraically closed fields of fixed positive characteristic with a predicate for an additive subgroup, called $\mathrm {ACFG}$ . This theory was introduced in [16] as a new example of $\mathrm {NSOP}_{1}$ nonsimple theory. In this paper we describe more features of $\mathrm {ACFG}$ , such as imaginaries. We also study various independence relations in $\mathrm {ACFG}$ , such as Kim-independence or forking independence, and describe interactions between them.

We consider the structures $(\mathbb {Z}; \mathrm {SF}^{\mathbb {Z}})$ , $(\mathbb {Z}; <, \mathrm {SF}^{\mathbb {Z}})$ , $(\mathbb {Q}; \mathrm {SF}^{\mathbb {Q}})$ , and $(\mathbb {Q}; <, \mathrm {SF}^{\mathbb {Q}})$ where $\mathbb {Z}$ is the additive group of integers, $\mathrm {SF}^{\mathbb {Z}}$ is the set of $a \in \mathbb {Z}$ such that $v_{p}(a) < 2$ for  every prime p and corresponding p-adic valuation $v_{p}$ , $\mathbb {Q}$ and $\mathrm {SF}^{\mathbb {Q}}$ are defined likewise for rational numbers, and $<$ denotes the natural ordering on each of these domains. We prove that the second structure is model-theoretically wild while the other three structures are model-theoretically tame. Moreover, all these results can be seen as examples where number-theoretic randomness yields model-theoretic consequences.

We consider the structure $({\Bbb Z}, + ,0,|_{p_1 } , \ldots ,|_{p_n } )$, where $x|_p y$ means $v_p \left( x \right) \leqslant v_p \left( y \right)$ and vp is the p-adic valuation. We prove that this structure has quantifier elimination in a natural expansion of the language of abelian groups, and that it has dp-rank n. In addition, we prove that a first order structure with universe ${\Bbb Z}$ which is an expansion of $({\Bbb Z}, + ,0)$ and a reduct of $({\Bbb Z}, + ,0,|_p )$ must be interdefinable with one of them. We also give an alternative proof for Conant’s analogous result about $({\Bbb Z}, + ,0, < )$.

We study the automorphism group of the algebraic closure of a substructure A of a pseudo-finite field F, or more generally, of a bounded PAC field F. This paper answers some of the questions of [1], and in particular that any finite group which is geometrically represented in a pseudo-finite field must be abelian.

The Connes Embedding Problem (CEP) asks whether every separable II1 factor embeds into an ultrapower of the hyperfinite II1 factor. We show that the CEP is equivalent to the statement that every type II1 tracial von Neumann algebra has a computable universal theory.

It is shown that Schatten $p$-classes of operators between Hilbert spaces of different (infinite) dimensions have ultrapowers which are (completely) isometric to non-commutative ${{L}_{p}}$-spaces. On the other hand, these Schatten classes are not themselves isomorphic to non-commutative ${{L}_{p}}$ spaces. As a consequence, the class of non-commutative ${{L}_{p}}$-spaces is not axiomatizable in the first-order language developed by Henson and Iovino for normed space structures, neither in the signature of Banach spaces, nor in that of operator spaces. Other examples of the same phenomenon are presented that belong to the class of corners of non-commutative ${{L}_{p}}$-spaces. For $p\,=\,1$ this last class, which is the same as the class of preduals of ternary rings of operators, is itself axiomatizable in the signature of operator spaces.
