On March 19, 2013, Khan al-Assal was attacked with chemical weapons. In total, 20 people were killed and an additional 124 were injured; 63 people were cared for at Aleppo University Hospital on that day, where 14 died, all of them were civilians; 7 men, 6 women, and 1 child.
