We consider products of an independent and identically distributed sequence in a set $\{f_1,\ldots ,f_m\}$ of orientation-preserving diffeomorphisms of the circle. We can naturally associate a Lyapunov exponent $\lambda $ . Under few assumptions, it is known that $\lambda \leq 0$ and that the equality holds if and only if $f_1,\ldots ,f_m$ are simultaneously conjugated to rotations. In this paper, we state a quantitative version of this fact in the case where $f_1,\ldots ,f_m$ are $C^k$ perturbations of rotations with rotation numbers $\rho (f_1),\ldots ,\rho (f_m)$ satisfying a simultaneous diophantine condition in the sense of Moser [On commuting circle mappings and simultaneous diophantine approximations. Math. Z.205(1) (1990), 105–121]: we give a precise estimate of $\lambda $ (Taylor expansion) and we prove that there exist a diffeomorphism g and rotations $r_i$ such that $\mbox {dist}(gf_ig^{-1},r_i)\ll |\lambda |^{{1}/{2}}$ for $i=1,\ldots , m$ . We also state analogous results for random products of $2\times 2$ matrices, without any diophantine condition.

We prove a normal form for strong magnetic fields on a closed, oriented surface and use it to derive two dynamical results for the associated flow. First, we show the existence of invariant tori and trapping regions provided a natural non-resonance condition holds. Second, we prove that the flow cannot be Zoll unless (i) the Riemannian metric has constant curvature and the magnetic function is constant, or (ii) the magnetic function vanishes and the metric is Zoll. We complement the second result by exhibiting an exotic magnetic field on a flat two-torus yielding a Zoll flow for arbitrarily weak rescalings.

We give measure estimates for sets appearing in the study of dynamical systems, such as preimages of Diophantine classes.

In this paper, we studythe linear Schrödinger equation over the d-dimensional torus,with small values of the perturbing potential.We consider numerical approximations of the associated solutions obtainedby a symplectic splitting method (to discretize the time variable) in combination with the Fast Fourier Transform algorithm (to discretize the space variable).In this fully discrete setting, we prove that the regularity of the initialdatum is preserved over long times, i.e. times that are exponentially longwith the time discretization parameter. We here refer to Gevrey regularity, and our estimatesturn out to be uniform in the space discretization parameter.This paper extends [G. Dujardin and E. Faou, Numer. Math.97 (2004) 493–535], where a similar result has been obtained inthe semi-discrete situation, i.e. when the mere time variable is discretized and spaceis kept a continuous variable.

We prove that the Hessian matrix of the real period function ψ(λ) associated with the real versal deformation fλ(x)=±x4+λ2x2+λ1x+λ0 of a singularity of type A3, is nondegenerate, provided that λ∈${\Bbb R}$3 does not belong to the discriminant set of the singularity. We explain the relation between this result and the perturbations of the spherical pendulum.
