The classical half-line Robin problem for the heat equation may be solved via a spatial Fourier transform method. In this work, we study the problem in which the static Robin condition $$bq(0,t) + {q_x}(0,t) = 0$$ is replaced with a dynamic Robin condition; $$b = b(t)$$ is allowed to vary in time. Applications include convective heating by a corrosive liquid. We present a solution representation and justify its validity, via an extension of the Fokas transform method. We show how to reduce the problem to a variable coefficient fractional linear ordinary differential equation for the Dirichlet boundary value. We implement the fractional Frobenius method to solve this equation and justify that the error in the approximate solution of the original problem converges appropriately. We also demonstrate an argument for existence and unicity of solutions to the original dynamic Robin problem for the heat equation. Finally, we extend these results to linear evolution equations of arbitrary spatial order on the half-line, with arbitrary linear dynamic boundary conditions.

We consider a fractional equation involving the left and right Riemann–Liouville fractional integrals and with Sturm–Liouville boundary-value conditions. We establish the variational structure of the problem and, by using critical-point theory, the existence of an unbounded sequence of solutions is obtained.

In this paper we present multivariate space-time fractional Poisson processes by considering common random time-changes of a (finite-dimensional) vector of independent classical (nonfractional) Poisson processes. In some cases we also consider compound processes. We obtain some equations in terms of some suitable fractional derivatives and fractional difference operators, which provides the extension of known equations for the univariate processes.

In this paper, positive solutions of fractional differential equations with nonlinear terms depending on lower-order derivatives on a half-line are investigated. The positive extremal solutions and iterative schemes for approximating them are obtained by applying a monotone iterative method. An example is presented to illustrate the main results.

The block-by-block method, proposed by Linz for a kind of Volterra integral equations with nonsingular kernels, and extended by Kumar and Agrawal to a class of initial value problems of fractional differential equations (FDEs) with Caputo derivatives, is an efficient and stable scheme. We analytically prove and numerically verify that this method is convergent with order at least 3 for any fractional order index α > 0.

In this paper, we consider the existence of nontrivial solutions for the nonlinear fractional differential equation boundary-value problem (BVP) where 1<α≤2, η∈(0,1),β∈ℝ=(−∞,+∞), βηα−1≠1, Dα is the Riemann–Liouville differential operator of order α, and f:[0,1]×ℝ→ℝ is continuous, q(t):[0,1]→[0,+∞) is Lebesgue integrable. We give some sufficient conditions for the existence of nontrivial solutions to the above boundary-value problems. Our approach is based on the Leray–Schauder nonlinear alternative. Particularly, we do not use the nonnegative assumption and monotonicity on f which was essential for the technique used in almost all existed literature.
