Cet article propose de montrer la transformation de l'idée d'interculturalisme au Québec de sa genèse dans les groupes communautaires montréalais des années 1960 jusqu’à son intégration dans la politique des partis au début du XXIe siècle à l'Assemblée nationale du Québec. Cette sociologie historique insiste sur la course à relais entre divers acteurs qui sont entrés en concurrence afin d'en définir le sens et les principes. L'histoire de l'idée d'interculturalisme montre en relief quatre périodes distinctes : la genèse du vocabulaire de « l'interculturel » (1963–1977), sa diffusion hors des groupes communautaires (1978–1988), la transition sémantique vers « l'interculturalisme » (1988–2006) et la polarisation politique à son sujet alors que se lèvent au Québec les controverses identitaires (2007–2018).

En 1897, Émile Durkheim, père de la sociologie moderne fait paraître un de ses ouvrages clefs, « Le Suicide », qui va bouleverser le regard que l’on porte sur ce phénomène. Il y affirme, que loin d’être un phénomène purement individuel, le suicide est aussi un fait social, qui peut dire quelque chose de la société dans laquelle vit le suicidant [1]. Durkheim révèle les « déterminants sociaux » pouvant influencer le passage à l’acte suicidaire et il conclue à l’existence de plusieurs catégories sociales de suicide. Il met surtout en évidence que ce sont les mutations sociales rapides qui sont les périodes les plus à risque d’augmentation de la pathologie suicidaire. Dans une première partie, nous tenterons ainsi d’analyser l’évolution des sociétés contemporaines africaines au filtre des concepts Durkheimiens de « régulation » et d’« intégration » pour tenter de donner une ébauche sociologique du suicide en leur sein. Nous envisagerons dans une seconde partie, d’analyser les critiques opposables à la vision de Durkheim pour essayer de s’approcher au plus près d’une représentation sociale actualisée du suicide, mêlant à la fois les bouleversements sociétaux d’une Afrique plongée dans la globalisation et les aspirations individuelles nouvelles entre tradition et modernité [2–4].

Power in sociological studies of memory is commonly understood as a function of political interests that are successfully framed as an inclusive and convincing story about selected elements of the past. By showing how negotiations of memory are driven by dynamics of symbolic exchange and by distinguishing techniques of narration emerging from this process, I develop a theoretical model that helps to better understand the locus of symbolic power in mnemonic agency. I consider the case of the plans surrounding a European history museum to show how persistent notions of cultural unity can be drafted in democratic societies.

This research aims to describe the process of integration of Luxembourg’s Portuguese. To achieve this, we first conduct a summary review of the sociological literature about integration. Once the conceptual framework established, we measure and link the two essential aspects of integration: the socio-economic integration and the acculturation. To complete, we confront the Portuguese population resident of Luxembourg to those residing in Portugal in order to highlight the degree of acculturation of Portuguese immigrants and their descendants with the Luxembourg society. This research has required the use of data from the Luxembourg European Values Study (EVS) of 2008 as we measure acculturation from questions about the values of individuals. We prove that compared with their parents, the descendants of Portuguese immigrants, regarding their native social environment, are experiencing upward social mobility associated with the development of an “hybrid” cultural identity, composed of values both of the country of birth of their parents and of Luxembourg.

Many patients, particularly older patients, interact with multiple providers while accessing health care services in a variety of different settings over extended periods of time. Understanding older patients’ experiences of their journeys through the health system is critical to improving service integration and quality of care. In this study, we have summarized the experiences of four patients living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as they interacted with the health care system over a three-month period following hospital discharge. Guided by case study methodology, we gathered data through semi-structured interviews and patient logs. Three overarching themes – social support, system navigation, and access – emerged from the data. Attending to provider-patient and provider-provider communication, and to patient social support and self-care needs, could improve integration and care outcomes. Achieving what patients perceive as an integrated and effective system will require time and commitment.

According to the free radical theory, aging is caused by the damaging effects of oxygen radicals. These agents are produced continuously and they become toxic when their intra-cellular levels become elevated. Although well-known for the damage they cause, recent studies indicate that free radicals may also have a beneficial side regulating some of the processes within a cell. With aging, however, it seems that the ability to control endogenous concentrations declines, and rising levels become progressively more harmful. In addition to the primary changes, the effects of free radical damage should also be examined at the secondary level. Because of its importance in regulating homeostatic mechanisms, it is possible that in this regard the hypothalamus may play a crucial role in the aging process. Progressive loss of function in this centre may lead to systemic changes which cause widespread disruption throughout the organism.

De nos jours, nous assistons à un développement du travail en mode projet qui secaractérise par la mobilisation de compétences multiples. La globalisation des marchésainsi que la réduction des coûts et des délais de développement de nouveaux produits ontconduit à la mise au point d’outils de travail collaboratif assurant la structuration, lesuivi, et la traçabilité des échanges. Cela a induit un accroissement considérable desbesoins de communication inter-applications et de cohérence globale des systèmes supportsdes différents modèles du produit (CAO, calcul, FAO). De part leur forte interdépendance,les deux activités CAO et calcul seront donc amenées à s’édifier sur de nouvellestechnologies émergentes dans les domaines de la modélisation des données (modèle deproduit) et des processus (interopérabilité) afin de pouvoir prendre en compte lamanipulation d’objets hétérogènes (géométrie, sollicitations, maillage, déformation,etc.). En effet, dans un contexte de travail collaboratif, l’intégration numérique de cesdeux activités CAO et calcul, est devenue une des principales préoccupations en CFAO.L’objectif recherché est de favoriser le partage des données sans recopies outransformations manuelles afin de fluidifier les flux d’informations entre CAO et calcultout en garantissant la fiabilité et la traçabilité des données. L’objet de cet articleest de présenter une approche d’intégration numérique et d’interopérabilité des processusde CAO et de calcul mécanique qui consiste à retrouver le modèle CAO déformé à partir d’unmaillage déformé dans la démarche de retour des résultats de calcul éléments-finis vers laCAO.

This paper reviews major concepts and achievements made in the tropics in tackling; five major social and economic issues associated with research, development and adoption of integrated pest management technologies during the past two decades. Major focus has been placed on (i) integrating IPM into farming systems, (ii) monitoring pest populations, (iii) information and management intensity of IPM, (iv) economic viability of IPM, and (v) institutional factors affecting IPM. Emphasis is placed on pinpointing ways in which success can be achieved and how constraints can be overcome in order to make IPM work better in future.
