An infinite Bernoulli-Euler beam (representing the “combined rail” consisting of the rail and longitudinal sleeper) mounted on periodic flexible point supports (representing the railpads) has already proven to be a suitable mathematical model for the floating ladder track (FLT), to define its natural vibrations and its forced response due to a moving load. Adopting deliberately conservative parameters for the existing FLT design, we present further results for the response to a steadily (uniformly) moving load when the periodic supports are assumed to be elastic, and then introduce the mass and viscous damping of the periodic supports. Typical support damping significantly moderates the resulting steady deflexion at any load speed, and in particular substantially reduces the magnitude of the resonant response at the critical speed. The linear mathematical analysis is then extended to include the inertia of the load that otherwise moves uniformly along the beam, generating overstability at supercritical speeds – i.e. at load speeds notably above the critical speed predicted for the resonant response when the load inertia is neglected. Neither the resonance nor the overstability should prevent the safe implementation of the FLT design in modern high speed rail systems.

Ce travail porte sur la réponse temporelle d'une poutre à section et inertie variable, sollicitée par un chargement mobile. Dans un premier temps le chargement est apporté par une masse contrainte de se déplacer sur la poutre sans pouvoir s'en séparer. Dans un deuxième temps, le chargement est apporté par un oscillateur en mouvement sur la poutre. Cette modélisation sera confrontée à d'autres codes de calculs tels que LS-Dyna et SIMBAD. L'application concerne la dynamique des tubes d'armes couplée au projectile pendant son parcours balistique dans le tube. L'exploitation des modèles présentés a pour but d'obtenir une approximation des paramètres de sortie du projectile, lesquels, en constituant les conditions initiales du vol, influencent la dispersion à la cible.

Since a long-term oscillation of a tuned mass damper (or TMD) in vibration control may impair the spring stiffness of the TMD, this phenomenon will directly down-tune the target frequency of the TMD. For this reason, this study intends to present a string-type tuned mass damper (or STMD) with an adjustable tuning frequency to mitigate the resonant response of a simple beam due to moving loads. The STMD device is installed inside the inner room of a bridge box girder and is composed of a distributed spring-dashpot-mass with a stretched string. Considering a linear beam-STMD model, a generalized two-degrees-of-freedom system is employed to determine the optimum tuning frequency condition and parameters of the STMD in vibration control. Compared with a traditional TMD device, the proposed STMD has the advantage of being adjustable in tuning frequency. From the numerical examples, the results indicate that the proposed STMD is a potential vibration control device in suppressing the train-induced vibration of railway bridges. Even though the tuning frequency of the STMD down-deviate from the target one by 10%, the control effectiveness of such a detuning STMD can still achieve about 90% as that of an optimal STMD by tuning its frequency to fit the optimum tuning frequency condition presented in this study.

Ce travail fait suite à l'étude théorique de la réponse d'un système plaque-liquide infini, soumis à un champ de pression uniforme se déplaçant avec une vitesse constante [J. Renard, A. Langlet, O. Pennetier, Response of a large plate-liquid system to a moving pressure step. Transient and stationary aspects, J. Sound and Vibration 265 (2003) 699–724].Dans la première partie de cet article, après avoir rappelé les équations du problème, on applique la méthode numérique établie dans la référence précédente pour calculer la réponse dynamique couplée au champ de pression créé par une détonation.Dans la deuxième partie, on présente le montage expérimental grâce auquel la mesure des déformations sur une plaque reposant sur de l'eau permet de caractériser la réponse dynamique du système à une détonation.L'objectif principal de cet article est de montrer que la modélisation du couplage fluide-structure qui a été effectuée, décrit convenablement la réponse observée, en particulier les ondes accompagnant le front de chargement.

The transient motion in an anisotropic elastic half-space due to a moving surface line load is considered. The load is applied suddenly on the surface and moves off in a fixed direction with nonuniform speed. Integral expressions for the displacements are derived using the reciprocal theorem. The waves generated by the moving load are discussed. Special attention is paid to the singularities in surface displacements generated as the load moves through the Rayleigh wave speed. Explicit expression is obtained for the particle velocity due to a constant load moving with constant speed.
