Amplatzer Vascular Plug IV (Abbott, USA) is usually used for the occlusion of abnormal tortuous vessels and has not been tried for the transcatheter closure of perimembranous ventricular septal defects with wind-sock morphology. Here, we report on three successful cases of perimembranous ventricular septal defect transcatheter closure using Amplatzer Vascular Plug IV. We did not observe residual shunting or new onset of complications during follow up. These preliminary positive results advocate the application and suitability of Amplatzer Vascular Plug IV for closing wind-sock-like perimembranous ventricular septal defects.

A 14-year-old girl admitted for corrective surgery for tetralogy of Fallot was found to have pulmonary arteriovenous malformations on pre-operative evaluation. In anticipation of a complicated postoperative course, percutaneous closure of the pulmonary arteriovenous malformations was undertaken first followed by a successful surgical outcome. Importance of this rare association and its clinical implication is hereby highlighted.

Aorta–right atrial tunnel is a rare congenital defect. If it is not treated, critical complications can occur. Surgical closure is the treatment of choice, but with increasing experience in transcatheter techniques and the introduction of new occluder devices the percutaneous technique is now a successful modality for closure. In this paper, we report the case of a 3-year-old child with aorta–right atrial tunnel whose defect was closed with the vascular plug 4 device.

An infant with cyanotic cardiac disease that was palliated with a bidirectional cavopulmonary shunt developed progressive and worsening cyanosis 5 years after the surgical procedure. A large venous collateral was found to be decompressing the bidirectional Glenn shunt from the superior caval vein to the inferior caval vein and was percutaneously closed with a vascular plug. The unusually large venous collateral, and the excellent outcome associated with percutaneous procedure are discussed.
