In identifying Chrysopidae from the South and West I have come across some new species, a few specimens have been in the collection for years, but more specimens have shown their distinctness. Correction is made of a misidentification in my Revision of the Chrysopidae and three Cuban forms have been taken in Florida.

Adult Female: In Life:—Enclosed in a tough, brownish-white, felted, elongate sac, on the underside of the leaves of Hystrix patula Moench and on several other undetermined species of grasses. Living insects removed from sacs are dark red, retaining that color in KOH.

Length 3.7 mm.; width 1.7 mm. Body form as in palustris Blatch. Black; the elytra with a greenish lustre, not at all bluish: the basal half of the head, antennae, and legs pale red; the basal segment and four terminal segments of each antenna distinctly infuscate; femora and the apical half of each terminal tarsal segment heavily infuscate.

The only published records of Chermidae captured in Alberta, which we have been able to find, refer to Psyllia americana Cwfd., Trioza varians Cwfd. both taken at Banff, and Paratrioza cockerelli Sulc., which has been, in recent years, accidentally introduced into the province.

Vanessa milberti Godart was described (1819, Enc. Meth. 9: 307, No. 25) from a specimen sent to the Paris Museum by the French painter and naturalist, Milbert, who visited the United States on one or more occasions early in the nineteenth century. Last summer, while in Paris, the type was photographed through the kindness of Dr. Le Cerf and this is reproduced on Plate 4, fig. I. Dr. Le Cerf informed the writer that the label was in the handwriting of P. H. Lucas who in 1860 re-labeled the collection, unfortunately destroying the original labels. This type is very badly worn so that today it might well pass for race furcillata Say for which reason the photograph of a typical specimen is also given (Plate 4, fig. 2).

Size, medium; form slender. Head small but prominent; face shining piceous, the area below the eyes slightly lighter in colour; the occiput uniformly dark piceous, but distinctly trifasciate in one specimen; vertex with a number of long stout black bristles; the entire head clothed with short pale-coloured hairs. Eyes small, prominent and oval. Antennae uniformly dark fuscous. Maxillary palpi dark fuscous, the two terminal joints sometimes slightly paler.

Dr. Austin H. Clark recently drew the attention of Dr. McDunnough to the fact that specimens of Incisalia niphon from Canada differ in several respects from niphon as it occurs in Florida (type locality) and other southern localities. Dr. Clark has kindly furnished a female specimen of niphon, taken at Mt. Vernon, Va., which upon study I have found to agree quite well with typical niphon as figured by Hubner in the Zutrage Exot. Schmett. figs. 203 and 204.

The following notes are based on collections made by the junior author and a few other collectors whose names are indicated in brackets. The descriptions of localities, including faunistic observations are also made by the junior author, while the senior author is responsible for determinations and notes on the geographical distribution of the species.

Female. Length. 9.6 mm.

Head. Frontoclypeus and cheeks grayish white pollinose with rather long white hairs which are quite dense below; a small area in center of frontoclypeus denuded; also two very small denuded areas on the lower portion of each cheek; front above antennae grayish white pollinose shading to yellowish brown toward the vertex; front and vertex with many long black hairs. Frontal callosity brownish black and somewhat shining; about one half width of front.

This list is a record of insects which have been found in or on Douglas fir in the northern Rocky Mountain region by personnel of the Forest Insect Field Laboratory at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. It comprises insects which feed upon the tree, as well as the parasites and associates of these insects. Of the 153 species listed, 102 were collected by the writer while making a study of the Douglas fir beetle (Dendroctonus pseudotsugae Hopk.). The remainder are listed in the laboratory records and were collected by J. C. Evenden, R. E. Balch, H. J. Rust, and D. DeLeon.

The wheat stem sawfly (Cephus cinctus Nort.) has recently become established as a serious pest of wheat in the Nobleford—Lethbridge area of southern Alberta, the first appreciable damage to wheat occurring in 1934. Each succeeding year the insect has increased and spread rapidly throughout the area, and in many cases crop losses have run as high as 75 to 80 per cent.

In the course of determination work, largely for Dr. J. Comstock of the Los Angeles Museum, I have received several species of Lepidoptera which appear to be undescribed. I therefore offer descriptions of these in the present paper. Through the courtesy of Dr. Comstock and Mr. Don Meadows the types are deposited in the Canadian National Collection.

The following notes were assembled in arranging the Protarchoides material in the National Collection. In establishing the identity of Protarchoides mellipes (Prov.) it has been found necessary to synonymize one species. A species allied to mellipes is described as new and a table is provided for the separation of the four known North American species. The recording of Trichiosoma as host for a member of this genus is further evidence of the close relationship of the genus with Protarchus Foer.

The genus Fabriciella, as considered by Tothill (Can. Ent., LVI, 1924:257-269) and Rowe (Ann. Ent. Soc. Am., XXIV, 1931 : 643-678), includes twenty-eight nearctic species. On the whole, the species are quite similar in general appearance, but in most cases readily separated, in the male sex at least, by genitalic characters.

A small (6-7 mm.) brownish testaceous species, with semi-transparent elytra and pronotum, and narrow metasternal lobes. It has somewhat the facies of colymbus described in this paper, but is not closely allied to it or to any described North American species.

While on an ant-collecting trip to Pelee Point, Ontario, August 6, 1931, with Dr. Mary Talbot, Miss Mable Schramm and Prof. Merle G. McFadden, the writer found a queen (Coll. No. 526), the first specimen of this new Solenopsis. The striking rose pink color of the gaster was a shade of red we had not found before in any of the ants of this region.

More than fifty species of aphids are already known to attack the numerous kinds of Artemisia occurring in western North America. Some aphids and their ant attendants occur in great abundance, virtually blackening the affected parts of the plants attacked. Artemisia is only one of many forage plant groups occurring in Utah which is damaged by aphids.

In the course of my studies in this interesting genus I have gradually accumulated a few specimens of a species which on genitalic characters (both ♂ and ♀ ) is abundantly distinct from any of our other eastern species. As these genitalic characters of practically all the described species are known to me, due to a study of type material, I believe the present species to be undescribed and offer the following description.
