Improving the quality of sexual life of patients has become a major therapeutic objective in the management of Chronic Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (CIBD).

To assess the prevalence of sexual dysfunction (SD) in patients with CIBD in remission and compare it to healthy controls (HC), and to determine the associated factors

This was a cross-sectional study, conducted over 8 months, involving 36 patients with CIBD, who attended the gastroenterology outpatient of Hedi Chaker University Hospital in Sfax (Tunisia). They were compared to 36 HC. Sexual function was assessed with the “Female sexual Function Index” and the “International Index of Erectile Function”.

In the sample of CIBD, the prevalence of SD was 65.4% in women and 50% in men. Compared to controls, patients with male gender had significantly more impaired erection and orgasm (p=0.005; p=0.002 respectively), and those with female gender had significantly more impaired sexual arousal and desire (p=0.003; p=0.028 respectively). In the sample of patients, having a poor marital harmony and a fewer sexual attraction towards partner were correlated with decreased desire (p=0.017) in men and with sexual arousal (p=0.024) and decreased desire (p=0.048) in women. The number of relapses negatively affects erection (p=0.038) and orgasm (p=0.048). Depression correlated with a decreased orgasm (p=0.001) and desire (p=0.048) in men, and with a decreased sexual arousal (p=0.006) in women.

SD is common in CIBD, hence the need for a multidisciplinary approach to allow improvement of the quality of life of these patients, and of their partners.

Various therapeutic approaches for post-traumatic stress disorder have been the subject of numerous studies. Antidepressants are sometimes used in PTSD. They improve the symptoms of PTSD. But their effect is not clear on the sexual dysfunctions that accompany this disorder.

The aim of this study is to display the effect of antidepressants on sexual dysfunctions in men with PTSD.

A total of 30 male patients with PTSD were included in this study. The International Erectile Function Index (IIEF15) was used to assess sexual dysfunction in participants before treatment and two months after starting antidepressant treatment.

Half of the patients (50%) used sertraline, 23% paroxetine, 20% fluoxetine and 7% escitalopram.The mean IIEF-15 score was 51.16 ± 6.82 in patients with PTSD before initiation of treatment. The average scores of the areas of sexuality studied by this scale were 3.93 ± 0.52 for sexual desire; 18.80 ± 5.68 for erectile function; 8.93 ± 8.97 for orgasmic function; 5.13 ± 1.10 for satisfaction with intercourse and 4.13 ± 1.16 for overall satisfaction. After 2 months of use of the antidepressant treatment, there was a statistically significant improvement in sexual functions: significant increase in the total score of the IIEF15 (p <0.001), and in the mean scores of the areas of sexuality.

Antidepressant treatment could, by improving post-traumatic symptoms, improve sexual dysfunction.

Poor sleep quality has been reported among adults with attention-deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) and has been associated with reduced sensory-processing abilities and low work performance. However, the relationships among sleep quality, sensory processing and the insufficient work performance of adults with ADHD is still unclear.

Following the World Health Organization’s international classification of functioning, disability and health concepts, this study compares sleep quality and sensory processing (body functions) and work performance (participation) of adults with ADHD to those of controls, and examines the relationships among those components in adults with ADHD.

Participants were 69 adults with ADHD and 52 age- and gender-matched controls. All completed a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Mini Sleep Questionnaire, the Adult/Adolescent Sensory Profile and the Occupational Questionnaire.

Compared to controls, the adults with ADHD showed significantly poorer body functions (sleep quality and sensory processing patterns) and lower work performance. Significant correlations were found between sleep quality and sensory-processing abilities and between sleep quality and work performance among adults with ADHD. Regression analysis revealed that for adults with ADHD, sleep quality accounted for 22.0%, and sensory sensitivity accounted for 10.9%, of the variance of their work performance.

Sleep quality, together with sensory processing patterns, has a significant influence on work performance of adults with ADHD. Because work is a vital occupation for adults, these body functions need to be considered in clinical settings, and further research on this topic is required for better understanding of the phenomena.

Sleep represents an important process in the stable behavioural and emotional functioning of the individual and is an important health indicator. Personality is related with academic and occupational achievement, quality of interpersonal relationships, but also with sleep. Concerning personality, individuals with lower emotional stability have greater sensitivity to stress and maladaptive sleep-related behaviour.

The main goal of this study is to analyze the relation between sleep quality and personality in college students.

This study employed a correlational design. A sample of 220 Portuguese students (84.9% females), with mean age of 19.5 years (sd=3.4), from different health courses, filled in the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Questionnaire and HEXACO-60, during a single individual session. A descriptive statistical analysis, a Pearson correlation analyses and the t Student test, for independent samples, were performed.

The results showed a predominance of poor sleep quality among students (96.3%). The more prevalent HEXACO dimensions are: Conscientiousness (X=32.6; sd=4.2) and Emotionality (X=31.2; sd=5.2). When exploring personality differences between sleep groups (GSG=Good Sleep Group; PSG=Poor Sleep Group) a significant difference was found in mean scores of the dimension Emotionality. It was observed that the PSG revealed higher levels of Emotionality than the GSG (PSG=31.5; sd=5.1; PSG=26.3; sd=4.0; p<.05).

College students self-report a poor sleep and the prevalent personality dimensions are Conscientiousness and Emotionality. Students with higher levels of Emotionality (fearfulness, anxiety, dependence and sentimentality) presented a poor sleep. To conclude, mediation studies are needed in order to better understanding the link between personality and sleep.

Perinatal period is characterized by a broad range of physical, psychological and relational changes. Maternal perinatal depression (PD) is defined as an episode of major depression with the onset from pregnancy to the first year after delivery. Depressive symptoms influence the earlier mother-child interaction and impact on child cognitive, affective and behavioral development.

Purpose of our study was to evaluate the consequences of PD on sleep-wake patterns in the early stages of infant development. We aim to investigate the presence of poor sleep in infants/ toddlers and also to identify differences in sleep ecology variables.

We enrolled, from December 2019 to September 2020, a clinical sample of children born from women with PD (N=19, m.a.=13,7, SD= 7,6) and a healthy control group (N=21, m.a.=15,5, SD=5,43). Infant sleep data were obtained from the Brief Infant Sleep Questionnaire (BISQ). Poor sleepers were defined by the following criteria: >3 night wakings, nocturnal wakefulness >1 hr or total sleep duration <9 hr. Maternal depression was assessed with clinical and psychometric evaluation. T-test was used for comparison between the two samples.

Statistical analysis indicates that there were not significant differences between the two groups concerning night wakings (p= .678), nocturnal wakefulness (p= .815), total sleep duration (p= .209) and nocturnal sleep onset time (p= .475).

Our findings suggest that PD is not a risk-factor in the onset of infant sleep problems. Probably negative parentig, affective disengagement, delegation in maternal care and sedative effects of pharmacotherapy may affect mother’s perception of her infant’s sleep.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) plays an important role in depression and sleep disorders. It influences the inflammatory process and may affect the interactions between psychological state and gastrointestinal symptoms.

The study aimed to compare BDNF concentrations in the group of Crohn’s disease (CD), ulcerative colitis (UC) patients, and healthy control (HC), as well as to correlate it with the severity of depression and insomnia.

The study included 94 inflammatory bowel disease patients (IBD, 57 CD, and 37 UC) and 26 HC. Each participant completed the following questionnaires: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Athens insomnia scale (AIS), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). BDNF protein concertation measurements were performed using ELISA. Funding: National Science Centre, Poland-2018/31/N/NZ5/03715.

CD patients had a higher serum level of BDNF (22.5 ng/mL, IQR:17.5-28.5) than UC patients (19.1 ng/mL, IQR:12.3-24.6; p=0.045). CD group had higher BDNF concentrations than HC (17.5 ng/mL, IQR:13.2-23.8; p=0.010), but no such differences were found between UC and HC groups (p=0.544). A positive correlation was found between AIS and BDNF among IBD (r=0.22, p=0.035). Additionally, patients, who obtained high BDI scores (>7 points) had lower BDNF concentrations than others (p=0.004). The patients with long sleep latency (>10 min) achieved a higher BDNF level than others (p=0.038). However. BDNF level did not correlate with PSQI results.

BDNF serum level is increased in CD, but not in UC patients. Overall, the severity of insomnia symptoms correlates positively with BDNF levels. Future research should focus on the further explanation of those observations.

PER1 is a repressor protein involved in regulating circadian rhythm. While obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by recurred pauses in breathing caused by the collapse of the upper airways it might be associated with disruption of the circadian clock.

The study aimed to assess PER1 protein in OSA patients and evaluate its association with PSG parameters.

The study included 40 individuals, who underwent diagnostic polysomnography (PSG) examination. Based apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) patients were divided into groups: control (AHI<5; n=10) and OSA (AHI5; n=30). All participants had their peripheral blood collected in the evening (9:00-10:00 pm) before and in the morning (6:00-7:00 am) after the PSG. PER1 protein concertation measurements were performed using ELISA. Funding: National Science Centre, Poland-2018/31/N/NZ5/03931.

The control and OSA group were match in sex and age, while differed regarding BMI (p=0.039), desaturation index (p<0.001) and AHI (p<0.001). PER1 protein level was elevated in OSA group compared to control both in the evening (322.384.1vs.208.460.1pg/ml;p<0.001) and morning (314.891.9vs.228.157.3pg/ml;p=0.002). No difference was observed between evening and morning PER1 level (p=0.946). Morning PER1 correlated with AHI (r=0.400; p=0.011), desaturation index (r=0.391;p=0.013), age (r=-0.312;p=0.049) and BMI (r=0.383;p=0.015). In a multiple linear regression model (R2=0.268;p=0.003) morning PER1 protein level was influenced by age (p=0.006) and AHI (p=0.025), while BMI and desaturation index were not significant.

OSA patients might suffer from circadian clock disruption, which is mainly associated with the severity of the disorder and age. Further studies are needed as this dysregulation can result in metabolic and mood disorders often observed in this group of patients.

Sleep disorders are the most common health problem among the health care staff, mainly those who perform night shifts.

To assess the prevalence of sleep disorders among health care workers in emergency department and to determine its associated factors.

It was a cross-sectional study, including health care workers assigned to emergency ward and intensive care unit of Hedi Chaker and Habib Bourguiba hospitals in Sfax and regional hospital of Kebili, during the first six months of 2017. We used an anonymous and confidential self-administered questionnaire. We used hospital anxiety and depression scale (HAD) to assess anxiety and depression. Sleep quality was assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and day time sleepiness by the Epworth Sleepiness Scale.

240 nurses were included. Mean age was 37 years-old, 59.2% were female and 64.2% were married and 79.2% assured night shifts. The prevalence of sleep disorders was 70.4%. Sleep difficulties were significantly correlated with anxiety (p=0.001) and depression (p=0.02). In multivariate study, sleep disorders were related to the absence of leisure activity (OR=0.42 [0.19-0.94]; p=0.035) and anxiety (OR=3 [1.4-6.1]; p=0.002). 40.8% of nurses experienced drowsiness. Sleepiness was significantly correlated with the absence of leisure activities (p=0.04) and with psychiatric family history (p=0.02). In the multivariate study, sleep disorders were correlated with female gender (OR=0.43 [0.19-0.9]; p=0.042) and with no leisure activity (OR=2.6 [1.2-5.6]; p=0.01).

Sleep disorders were common among emergency nurses, in order of that; working conditions should be improved to provide less stressful conditions for nurses.

Insomnia is a frequent reason of consultation in psychiatry. Always it is associates to other psychiatric pathologies.After stabilisation of the main disorder, it can become the only complaint.

This study aimed tob assess the prevalence of severe insomnia among patients suffering from different psychiatric disorder, and their sociodemographic profile.

It is a cross sectional study conducted in February 2020 at the psychiatric ward of the military hospital of Tunis, including 80 patients who responded to the questionnaire of Insomnia Severity Index (ISI).

The study included 80 patients (18 to 66) years old with average age 38.78.The questionnaire showed that 26.92% didn’t have any sleep disorder, 25% had light insomnia, 42,30% had mild insomnia and only 5.76% suffered from severe insomnia.The patients counseling for anxiodepressive disorders were 48%, for PTSD were 17.46% and 17.3% for psychosis. Military population represented 80% of total patients interviewed and the average of years of service was17.7 years. The single patients were 46% th others were married. 70% of the patients were under hypnotic drugs besides the main treatment.

Sleep disorders have a significant impact on cognitive functions and life quality which should be separately studied. Despite of well conducted pharmacotherapy, some patients still suffering from severe insomnia, it can be attributed to the main psychiatric disorder, relapse, treatment resistance, substance abuse…The importance of the psychiatrist involvement in screening and treatment can obviously enhance the prognosis. Other therapeutic alternatives which are non pharmacological such as phytotherapy ans CBT should be proposed to patients.

Infant intrinsic factors, parental mental health, and parenting functioning could influence infant sleep development (Camerota et al., 2019). The current study was designed to advance understanding of parental mental health in influencing bedtime resistance in infants aging 8-12 months.

The main aim of the present study was to examine the role of parental postpartum affective disorders, infants’ temperament and paternal involvement at bedtime in predicting infants’ bedtime resistance (e.g. fussing, crying or protesting).

60 Italian families of infants (34 boys and 26 girls) aging from 8 to 12months (M =10.73, SD = 2.54) participated in this study. Parents completed Brief Infant Sleep Questionnaire (Sadeh et al., 2009), Perinatal Assessment of Paternal and Maternal Affectivity (Baldoni et al., 2018), QUIT for infants’ temperament (Axia, 2002) and an ad-hoc questionnaire for fathers’ involvement. Two multiple linear regressions (MR), one for fathers and one for mothers, and relative weight analyses (RWA) were conducted.

Infants’ involvement in constant bedtime routines (reported by fathers: β = −.35, p < .05; mothers: β = −.31, p < .05) and paternal involvement at bedtime (fathers: β = −.45, p < .01; mothers: β = −.27, p < .05) represented protective factors for infants’ bedtime difficulties. Paternal affective disorders, accounted for 17.2% of the explained variance for mothers’ and 12.5% for fathers’ reports of infant bedtime difficulties, more than did maternal postpartum affective disorders.

Findings support that parental mental health can interfere with infants’ bedtime resistance.

Research has shown that ADHD and sleep disorders are intimately intertwined in the majority of patients in both childhood and adulthood. Circadian rhythm sleep disturbances, esp. the delayed sleep phase syndrome, as well as several other sleep disorders, such as Insomnia, Restless Legs, Periodic Limb Movement Disorder and Sleep apnea are associated with ADHD. With a prevalence rate of 80% of sleep disorders in adults with ADHD, the question not only is what is chicken and egg, but even if both conditions share a joint pathophysiology.

To investigate the consequences of this comorbid sleep disorders on severity of ADHD, mood and health, as well as to find evidence on improvement of ADHD by treatment of the sleep disorder(s).

Recent research will be evaluated to formulate answers to these questions.

Sleep loss resulting from sleep disorders increases ADHD severity due to more impairment of cognition and memory as well as mood instability. Sleep loss in the longer term also leads to obesity, with negative consequences for health in general. First studies showing a decrease of ADHD symptoms by treatment of sleep disorders will be discussed.

ADHD and sleep disorders come together in the majority of patients and need both assessment and treatment. Treatment of ADHD by improving sleep, is an intriguing research question with potential new treatment options.

Sleep problems are a common presenting symptom of elderly patients to Primary care physicians and Psychiatrists. Almost half of seniors over age 65 who live at home are dissatisfied with their sleep, and nearly two-thirds of those residing in nursing home facilities suffer from sleep disorders. Chronic and pervasive sleep complaints and disturbances are frequently associated with excessive daytime sleepiness and may result in impaired cognition, diminished intellect, poor memory, confusion, and psychomotor retardation.

The aim of this article is to sumarize and explore the facts envolving sleep disorders, discusses approaches to treatment and highlights new research in the area of geriatric sleep disorders.

An online bibliographic search was carried out on PubMed and Medline using the keywords “Elderly”, “sleep” and “Psychiatry”.

Management of sleep disorders is complicated by the risk of side effects of pharmacologic treatment approaches, and thus nonpharmacologic strategies are preferred when possible. Additionally, many of the pharmacologic strategies used in treating younger adults have not been studied adequately in the geriatric population, and more specifically in patients with underlying cognitive disorders, making treatment choices difficult.

This review has provided insights into the biopsychosocial impact of sleep disorders in the elderly, as this group pose unique challenges for diagnosis and treatment. Sleep changes in the elderly may have a far broader impact on geriatric health than originally thought, with implications for AD and delirium, and further research is needed in these areas as well.

Although sleep hygiene is a well-studied factor of good sleep (Irish et al., 2015, McNail et al., 2016), less is known about its role in the complaints on anxiety and depression (wither direct or through sleep quality).

The aim was to reveal direct and indirect effects of sleep behavior on subjective sleep quality, anxiety and depression.

174 people aged 17-57 without diagnosed sleep disorders filled the Scale of Behavioral Factors of Sleep Disturbances (Rasskazova, Leonov, 2020), Insomnia Severity Index (Morin, 1993), Hospital Scale of Anxiety and Depression (Zingmond, Snaith, 1983), Beck’s Anxiety and Depression Inventories (Beck, Steer, 1993, Beck et al., 1996).

Taking medications and non-medications before sleep, alcohol, tonic drinks and using gadgets in the evening, delaying bedtime, self-limitations after poor nights, poor adherence to the regimen and postponement of the morning rise were characterized by an indirect effect on anxiety and depressiveness through poor sleep (|β|=0,03-0,24). Self-limiting behavior and delaying the morning rise are associated with higher levels of anxiety and depression, even in the absence of sleep-related complaints (β=0,23-0,34, p<0,01).

Based on the data we suggest that the dysfunctional role of behavior on anxiety and depression is predominantly indirect (through the perpetuation of complaints), but it can also be direct (regardless of complaints of sleep disorders). Opioid dependent individuals frequently complain of sleep problems in withdrawal and during abstinence.

The objectives were to assess the subjective sleep parameters among buprenorphine-maintained opioid-dependent patients and to correlate it with socio-demographics, concomitant drug use and treatment related variables

Using a cross-sectional study design, 106 hundred six opioid-dependent patients maintained on buprenorphine for at least six months and on same dose in past month were interviewed. Sleep was assessed by Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) and Epworth sleepiness scale. Association between subjective sleep parameters, socio-demographics, concomitant drug use and treatment related variables was also studied.

All participants were males. Their mean age was 41.1 years (SD:14.3). The mean duration of illicit opioid use was 10 years (IQR: 5,22). About 63.2% (n=67) had PSQI scores more than 5 denoting sleep problem. The scores obtained in Epworth Sleeping Scale were in normal range. Mean subjective total sleep time of the sample was 403.5 (SD 94.8) minutes and median sleep latency was 35 (IQR 18.8, 62.5) minutes. Subjective total sleep time was significantly higher in participants who had use tobacco in the past three months (p value=0.03) and who were in moderate ASSIST risk category (p value=0.04). Subjective sleep latency was significantly higher (p value=0.04) in participants who had used opioids in last three months. It was observed that age was a significant predictor of subjective total sleep time and OST compliance was a significant predictor of sleep latency.

A sizeable proportion of opioid dependent patients on buprenorphine have sleep problems

Prenatal alcohol exposure can have a negative impact on a child’s neurocognitive development. Still, about 16% of European women maintain alcohol consumption, even after knowing they are pregnant. Several studies have shown that alcohol use patterns alter drastically during pregnancy. However, little is known about how these change in women with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) diagnosis.

To understand the impact of pregnancy on alcohol use patterns in women at high risk or with previous AUD diagnosis.

Bibliographic research was made through the PubMed/NCBI database. No time limit was specified on the search. Pertinent manuscripts were individually reviewed for additional relevant citations.

Several factors influence alcohol consumption during pregnancy, including financial status, educational level, and high levels of psychological stress. Although older age at the onset of pregnancy is deemed a risk factor for alcohol consumption, women of 25 or fewer years of age are at higher risk for AUD, as are those with a history of criminal behaviour and family history of AUD. Pregnancy seems to play a critical role in altering alcohol use patterns, reducing the risk of AUD in about 70%, regardless of pregnancy trimester. This is seen even in women who present high-risk factors for AUD.

Pregnancy presents itself as a behavioural change promoter and should be regarded as a window of opportunity for intervention in women with AUD. However, there are few studies that focus on alcohol consumption patterns specifically in women with AUD, whereby making it necessary to extrapolate the available data.

There is a paucity of knowledge and understanding of medical error in opioid substitution treatment programmes.

To characterise patient safety incidents involving opioid-substitution treatment with methadone or buprenorphine in community-based care to identify the sources and nature of harm, describe and interpret themes and use this qualitative analysis to identify priorities to focus future improvement work.

We undertook a mixed-methods study examining incidents involving opioid substitution treatment with methadone or buprenorphine in community-based care submitted between 2005 and 2015 from the National Reporting and Learning System, a repository of incident reports from England and Wales. We analysed each report using four frameworks to identify incident type, contributory factors, incident outcome and severity of harm. Analysis involved detailed data coding and iterative generation of data summaries using descriptive statistical and thematic analysis.

2,284 reports were identified. We found that most risks of harm came from failure in one of four processes of care delivery: prescribing opiate-substitution (n=151); supervised dispensing errors (n=248); non-supervised dispensing errors (n=318); and monitoring and communication activities (n=1544). Most incidents resulting in harm involved supervised or non-supervised dispensing (n=91/127, 72%). Staff- (e.g. mistakes, not following protocols) and organisation-related (e.g. poor working conditions or poor continuity of care between services) contributory factors were present for over half of incidents.

We have identified four processes of care delivery and associated contributory factors, which represent potential target areas for healthcare systems worldwide to develop interventions to improve the safe delivery of opioid substitution treatment.

Voluntary dropouts before completion of inpatient psychiatric treatment are common in patients with dual disorders. However, the socioeconomic profile and family structure of patients who undergo a therapeutic program may correlate with their motivation and participation in the treatment received, as well as with their subsequent recovery.

To evaluate the family typology of patients with dual diagnosis according to the degree of intrafamily cohesion and adaptability correlated with the prediction of therapeutic success and the risk of voluntary abandonment of hospital detoxification treatment.

A total of 211 patients admitted to an inpatient psychiatric unit with substance use disorders were studied. Data were obtained from two sources: (1) interview of participants, (2) review of participants’ medical records using the Maudsley Addiction Profile (MAP) and the Family Cohesion and Adaptability Assessment Scale (FACES III).

The 127 subjects who completed the hospital detoxification program had significantly lower MAP and FACES III scores at baseline than the 84 subjects who did not complete the study. Those who did not complete the admission reported greater addictive severity and poorer family functioning. Family cohesion and adaptability measured with FACES III and addictive severity assessed with MAP positively correlated with successful compliance with the hospital treatment program for dual diagnosis patients.

These findings reveal the association of psychosocial and family determinants and addictive severity with treatment completion and subsequent prognostic evolution. Recognizing these predictive characteristics may allow early identification of patients at higher risk of early dropout and prevent it by increasing the intensity of treatment.

Substance use affects it’s user and also risks the health of the caregivers.

Identify persons at risk of developing substance use disorder, assess the burden borne by the caregivers and development of psychiatric illness.

Clinical assessment based on DSM-V criteria was performed for SUD diagnosis. Data was recorded using Substance use risk profile scale (SURPs) on the patient and the caregivers were evaluated using M.I.N.I. International Neuropsychiatric Interview (M.I.N.I) and caregiver’s strain index (CSI).

81 participants-96% were male, mean age 32.4 years, 53.1% married, 72.8% employed and 52% lived in joint family system). The substance use ascertained were alcohol 24.7%, benzodiazepines 21%, cannabis 34.6%, opioid 30.9% and others 4.8%. 50% had substance use lasting 2-9 years. 50.6% reported starting as a recreation and the perpetuating factor for 49.4%. was emotional distress. 44% quit due to family pressure. On SURP, 85.2% demonstrated anxiety sensitivity, 96.3% were hopeful, 66% sensation seeking and 77% were impulsive. Caregiver mean age was 37.8 years, with two-third being parents and spouses. The burden reported was sleep disturbance 59.3%, inconvenience (61.7%) physical strain 46.9%, confining 50.6%, family adjustment 76.5%, plan changes 65.4%, emotional adjustment 88.9%, behavioral adjustment 74.1%, financial strain 80.2%, work adjustment 46.9%, 71.6% felt overwhelmed and 67.9% were upset about the changes from former self. Major depressive disorder was identified in 51.9% of the caregivers.

SURP identified personality features linked with risk of developing substance use disorder. The study also provided evidence for significant burden on caregivers and an increased likelihood to develop a psychiatric disorder.

Pregabalin is an analogue of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Recent reports suggest illicit pregabalin use may be increasing among youth, however its addictive potential has not been well established (1).

Drug seeking behavior and chronic drug use are associated with defcits in glutamate clearance and activation of postsynaptic glutamatergic receptors (2). Based upon multiple studies, we compare here the addiction and misuse risks of pregabalin with those of traditional psychoactive substances (3).

Users of pregabalin were identified from 1st January 2019 to 31 December 2019 in Oran Addictology service, at west Algeria. The aim of the study was to establish the addictive potential of pregabalin and to compare the addiction risks of pregabalin with traditional psychoactive substances in west Algerian population. Clinical diagnosis was established according DSM-5 diagnosis criteria.

A total of 92 cases of pregabalin abuse or dependence were identified. The principal population at risk consists of patients with other current or past substance use disorders, for the most part opioid and multi-drug users, the age group were between 17-38 years old, mostly single men. The mean daily dose of pregabalin was 1200 mg. Almost all patients experienced withdrawal symptoms when pregabalin was discontinued.

The misuse of pregabalin often leads to abuse and dependence, mostly in the context of multiple drug addiction, especially in youth population.

Research on the association between internet use and concerns about body image is still scarce.

To explore the associations between generalized problematic internet use, number of social networks, and appearance schemas.

216 Portuguese late adolescents (89.3% females), with a mean age of 18.62 years old (SD = .488, range: 18-19) filled in an internet patterns of use questionnaire, the Generalized Problematic Interne Use Scale 2 (GPIUS2) and The Appearance Schemas Inventory-Revised (ASI-R).

A total of 99.6% of the students use social networks. Subjects were divided into three groups (group1: 1-2 social networks; group 2: 3 social networks, and group 3: >3 social networks). There was a statistically difference in Motivational Salience scores (ASI-R) for the three groups [F (2, 503) = 6.0, p = .003]. Post-hoc comparisons indicated that the mean score for group 3 (M = 28.29, SD = 4.95) was significantly different from group 1 (M = 26.69, SD =4.55), and from group 2, (M = 26.87, SD =4.95). Generalized problematic internet subscales (Mood Regulation, Self-Deficient Regulation, and Negative Consequences) and total score were significantly correlated with both dimensions of ASI-R: Self-Evaluation Salience (coefficients varied from r = .31** to r = .47**) and Motivational Salience (from r = .14*, to r = .31**).

Generalized problematic internet use and the number of social networks are associated with adolescent’s cognitive-behavioural investment in one’s own appearance.
