The Arabic version of Red Cross Principles has just been issued by the ICRC. This work, which first appeared in French in 1955 and has also been translated into English, German, Japanese and Spanish, is of fundamental importance and should, as Max Huber wrote in his preface to the French edition, be not only read but meditated upon. The author, Mr. Jean Pictet, is Vice-President of the ICRC, Director of the Henry Dunant Institute and Associate Professor at the University of Geneva.

In our previous issue we mentioned that a new six-month plan of operations had been submitted by the ICRC to the Government of the People's Republic of Angola. On 26 April, the International Committee published the following press release.

Each year the International Committee publishes an account of its work during the previous year. But this year, the Annual Report for 1975 appears in a completely new form: though there are only 71 pages, the layout is different, and there are more illustrations.

Under the title ICRC Bulletin, the International Committee of the Red Cross is putting out, as from February of this year, a publication which will come out on the first Monday of each month. It is to take the place of ICRC in Action, the last number of which was issued in January, with the difference, however, that its contents will not be restricted to an account of the ICRC's humanitarian activities nor will they be of an official nature.

The year 1975 was a twofold anniversary year for the International Tracing Service (ITS). Not only was it the thirtieth year of that unique international Service's existence; it was also the twentieth year of the ICRC's presence in Arolsen. To mark the thirtieth anniversary a short ceremony took place on 6 May in the main hall of the ITS. Each member of the staff was presented with a copy of the booklet published for the occasion.

To spread the principles of the Red Cross and the Geneva Conventions more widely throughout the world the ICRC has published a school textbook, which is now available in many languages. This is designed for school children and has been supplemented by a “Teacher's Manual”. These two works teach humanitarian ideals to young readers, but it was later found necessary to produce a manual for soldiers. The ICRC considered this matter and issued the “Soldier's Manual” which, like the school textbook, was generously illustrated.

In our January 1976 issue, we announced the publication of an index to the French edition of International Review covering the years 1962 to 1974. It gives us pleasure to inform our English-speaking readers that the analytical index to the English edition is now available.
