The February 1998 issue (57.1) of the Journal carried an error in the title of the book by N. P. Unni and Bruce M. Sullivan (57.1:268–69). The title appeared as The Sun King's Daughter and King Saṃvarana: Tapatī-Saṃvaraṇam and the Kūṭiyāṭṭam Drama Tradition. The title of the book by Unni and Sullivan is The Sun God's Daughter and King Saṃvaraṇa: Tapatī-Saṃvaraṇam and the Kūṭiyāṭṭam Drama Tradition.
The May 1998 issue (57.2) of the Journal carried an error in the review of Stephen Peter Rosen's Societies and Military Power: India and its Armies (57.2:588–89). The first line of the review should have read “historians are either lumpers or splitters: lumpers drawing conclusions from general patterns while splitters seek shelter behind the local and particular” instead of “historians are either jumpers or splatters.” These errors appear in two other places in the text.
The May 1998 issue (57.2) of the Journal carried an error in the review of J. J. Clarke's Oriental Enlightenment. The Encounter Between Asian and Western Thought (57.2:461–62). In the seventh line on page 462, Silvestre de Sacy's name is misspelled as Silvestire, and on the twelfth line on page 462, West-Östlicher is misspelled as Ötlicher.
