Let $K$ be a compact Lie group with complexification $G$, and let $V$ be a unitary $K$-module. We consider the real symplectic quotient $M_{0}$ at level zero of the homogeneous quadratic moment map as well as the complex symplectic quotient, defined here as the complexification of $M_{0}$. We show that if $(V,G)$ is $3$-large, a condition that holds generically, then the complex symplectic quotient has symplectic singularities and is graded Gorenstein. This implies in particular that the real symplectic quotient is graded Gorenstein. In case $K$ is a torus or $\operatorname{SU}_{2}$, we show that these results hold without the hypothesis that $(V,G)$ is $3$-large.
We correct an error in the proof of a lemma in Translation groupoids and orbifold cohomology. Canad. J. Math 62(2010), no. 3, 614–645. This error was pointed out to the authors by Li Du of the Georg-August-Universität at Göttingen, who also suggested the outline for the corrected proof.
Let G be a Lie group, and let M be a smooth proper G-manifold. Let M/G denote the orbit space, and let π : M → M/G be the natural map. It is known that M/G is homeomorphic to a polyhedron. In the present paper we show that there exist a piecewise linear (PL) manifold P, a polyhedron L, and homeomorphisms τ : P → M and σ : M/G → L such that σ o π o τ is PL. This is an application of the theory of subanalytic sets and subanalytic maps of Shiota. If M and the G-action are, moreover, subanalytic, then we can choose τ and σ subanalytic and P and L unique up to PL homeomorphisms.
We show that the bicategory of (representable) orbifolds and good maps is equivalent to the bicategory of orbifold translation groupoids and generalized equivariant maps, giving a mechanism for transferring results from equivariant homotopy theory to the orbifold category. As an application, we use this result to define orbifold versions of a couple of equivariant cohomology theories: $K$-theory and Bredon cohomology for certain coefficient diagrams.
Let $M$ be a symplectic 4-dimensional manifold equipped with a Hamiltonian circle action with isolated fixed points. We describe a method for computing its integral equivariant cohomology in terms of fixed point data. We give some examples of these computations.
In this paper we show that the Lie-group $\text{Pi}{{\text{n}}_{4}}$ is isomorphic to the semidirect product $\text{(S}{{\text{U}}_{2}}\times \text{S}{{\text{U}}_{2}})\text{Z/2}$ where $Z/2$ operates by flipping the factors. Using this structure theorem we prove a classification theorem for $\text{Pi}{{\text{n}}_{4}}$-bundles over a finite 4-complex $X$.
