The year 2020 was an awakening for some. For others, it reiterated the persistent social injustice in the United States. Compelled by these events, 30 diverse individuals came together from January to May 2021 for a semester-long seminar exploring inequity in archaeological practice. The seminar's discussions spotlighted the inequity and social injustices that are deeply embedded within the discipline. However, inequity in archaeology is often ignored or treated narrowly as discrete, if loosely bound, problems. A broad approach to inequity in archaeology revealed injustice to be intersectional, with compounding effects. Through the overarching themes of individual, community, theory, and practice, we (a subset of the seminar's participants) explore inequity and its role in various facets of archaeology, including North–South relations, publication, resource distribution, class differences, accessibility, inclusive theories, service to nonarchaeological communities, fieldwork, mentorship, and more. We focus on creating a roadmap for understanding the intersectionality of issues of inequity and suggesting avenues for continued education and direct engagement. We argue that community-building—by providing mutual support and building alliances—provides a pathway for realizing greater equity in our discipline.

This article examines the discursive construction of male disability in Los informantes, a national Colombian TV show. By combining critical discourse analysis, multimodal discourse analysis, and queer linguistics with (critical) disability studies and crip theory, it examines three TV reports that narrate the lives of a physically disabled Venezuelan migrant, a young Colombian with Down syndrome, and a physically disabled Colombian living in Great Britain. The analysis shows that Los informantes relies on inspirational and individualistic imagery that conceals the role of the neoliberal state in debilitating the lives of these men. By using a set of linguistic, visual, and discursive strategies (the supercrip figure, narrative prosthesis, and inclusionist profitability, among others), the reports mask the social and political aspects of disability. This study contributes to understanding the intersection between language, dis/ability, sexuality, and media in Latin America and questions dominant discursive constructions on disability.

The announcement about the handicap of a child is communicated to parents by gynecologists or ultrasonographists, in the prenatal period. Often, these professionals are not prepared to communicate this news to the parents, and they have some limitations that lead them to act inappropriately. Therefore, the aims of this research were to identify and to describe the feelings of professionals facing this situation, and to examine their behaviors when they have to inform a couple about the child's anomaly. Ten gynecologists and ultrasonographists were interviewed: five were consultants in Public Health Services and five were private clinicians. Interviews were carried out with a semi-structured script. The results showed that, according to the participants, there is no specific moment, nor a standard behavior, that is most appropriate for making such an announcement. Yet the data show that all the participants feel hurt or frustrated when they must announce this phenomenon, becoming involved with the case. In conclusion, no graduate course has prepared them to deal with this deficiency. Suggestions are made concerning the graduate curriculum in order to improve the preparation of future doctors. A mental health professional is even necessary among the multidisciplinary team formed to deal with the pain produced in the moment of the announcement.

Las personas que acudieron (n = 124, tasa de respuesta: 84%) a cinco médicos generales en Montpellier completaron cuestionarios sobre salud (razón para la visita, causa del problema, GHQ-12), discapacidad (WHODAS II) y uso de los servicios (CSRI). Para cada paciente, el médico general rellenó un breve impreso que incluía una evaluación de la gravedad de la enfermedad física y psicológica. En conjunto, el médico general clasificó al 30,6% de los pacientes como casos de GHQ, que indica probable morbilidad psiquiátrica no psi-cótica, y evaluó que el 58,9% tenía una enfermedad física. Los pacientes con morbilidad psiquiátrica mostraron niveles tan altos de discapacidad como los que tenían una enfermedad física con un número mayor, sin embargo, de dominios vitales afectado. Tenían también un número mucho mayor de días de discapacidad y utilizaban los servicios en mayor medida que las personas sin morbilidad psiquiátrica, siendo más fuertes estos vínculos que con la enfermedad física. El uso del WHODAS II y el CSRI no se ha comunicado antes en Francia. Este estudio muestra que podrían ser instrumentos útiles para describir la discapacidad y el uso de los servicios en la práctica general. Los hallazgos de este estudio inicial indican la necesidad de más investigación en atención primaria que se centre en la detección precisa y el tratamiento de los pacientes, de manera que se pueda reducir la discapacidad y el uso excesivo de los servicios asociados con la morbilidad psiquiátrica.

El propósito de este estudio es describir la situación de los pacientes con trastorno obsesivo-compulsivo (TOC) españoles y compararla con la de la población general y otros grupos de pacientes.

Nuestro propósito era determinar el efecto del tratamiento de risperidona en monoterapia sobre la discapacidad y sobre la calidad de vida de 318 pacientes esquizofrénicos ambulatorios que habían sido tratados antes con otros neurolépticos. Los pacientes fueron evaluados en la línea de base y a los dos, cuatro y ocho meses utilizando la BPRS, la CGI, la WHO/DDS y la SF-36. Las puntuaciones de la BPRS mostraron una disminución significativa en el segundo mes, tanto en la puntuación total como en cada uno de los tres grupos negativo, positivo y de depresión/ansiedad. Las puntuaciones de la WHO/DDS disminuyeron significativamente tanto en la puntuación global (de 51,8 a 37,4, P < 0,0001) como en las cuatro dimensiones. Las puntuaciones de la escala SF-36 y las medidas de resumen mostraron una mejoría significativa después de ocho meses de tratamiento de risperidona. El tratamiento a largo plazo (ocho meses) de risperidona tiene un efecto positivo sobre la evolución clínica y psicosocial. Las mujeres, los pacientes paranoides y los pacientes sin historia de uso-abuso de sustancias mostraron mejorías mayores en la calidad de vida.
