Zhang [‘On hyperstability of generalised linear functional equations in several variables’, Bull. Aust. Math. Soc.92 (2015), 259–267] proved a hyperstability result for generalised linear functional equations in several variables by using Brzdęk’s fixed point theorem. We complete and extend Zhang’s result. We illustrate our results for general linear equations in two variables and Fréchet equations.

We prove hyperstability results for the Drygas functional equation on a restricted domain (a certain subset of a normed space). Our results are more general than the ones proposed by Aiemsomboon and Sintunavarat [‘Two new generalised hyperstability results for the Drygas functional equation’, Bull. Aust. Math. Soc.95 (2017), 269–280] and our proof does not rely on the fixed point theorem of Brzdęk as was the case there. A characterisation of the Drygas functional equation in terms of its asymptotic behaviour is given. Several examples are given to illustrate our generalisations. Finally, we point out a misleading statement in the proof of the second result in the paper by Aiemsomboon and Sintunavarat and propose its correction.

We prove a hyperstability result for the Cauchy functional equation $f(x+ y)= f(x)+ f(y)$, which complements some earlier stability outcomes of J. M. Rassias. As a consequence, we obtain the slightly surprising corollary that for every function $f$, mapping a normed space ${E}_{1} $ into a normed space ${E}_{2} $, and for all real numbers $r, s$ with $r+ s\gt 0$ one of the following two conditions must be valid:

After the enthusiasm for creating “intelligent robots” in the early 1980's, progress of robotics research in the past decade has not fulfilled our expectations but revealed various difficulties in understanding motor control by man and implementing intelligent functions in robotic machines. To regain the initiative in the development of intelligent machines, this paper first presents a critical review of the state of the art of robot control and points out the necessity for improving robot servo-loops in order to facilitate skilled and dexterious motions in robotic manipulators and mechanical hands. It is then shown that the introduction of a quasi-natural potential in Lagrange's formulation of robot dynamics gives rise to the design of hyperstable PID servo-loops, which establish global asymptotic stability of set-point control. The hyperstability theoretical framework is then applied to the design of control commands in various control problems, such as hybrid (position/force) control, impedance control, model-based adaptive control, and learning control. In all cases, the passivity concept of residual robot dynamics plays a vital role in conjunction with the concept of feedback connections of two hyperstable nonlinear or linear blocks.
