Stoffregen & Bardy argue that unimodal invariants do not exist, and that only “amodal” invariants are possible. But they confuse twoseparate issues. Amodal invariants, we argue, do indeed exist tospecify features of the environment, but not even an amodalinvariant, in isolation, could specify their “presence” or“reality.”
