Unlike other parts of the world, in Western Europe the evidence of society's increasingly low reliance on supranational beliefs, matched by a dwindling proportion of churchgoers, is so strong that current academic debates do not revolve around the existence of secularisation but, rather, around its causes and actual significance (Norris & Inglehart 2004: 83−110).
