Summary
A Christian ethic of healthcare funding should be motivated by and show compassion, be just in access, and be guided by a theology of limits and prudence, evidencing responsible stewardship. A Christian ethic of healthcare funding is not one of choosing which of compassion, social justice, and stewardship to prioritise and which to ignore; the Samaritan showed all three.
In this chapter, I start by discussing the tensions involved in pursuing all three objectives and then come down a level, moving from principles to the specific, discussing how the three principles might apply when paying organisations and professionals for public health and healthcare.
