Edwardus, Dei gratia rex Angliae et Franciae et dominus Hiberniae, venerabili in Christo patri Wulstano, eadem gratia Wigorniensi episcopo, salutem. Quia pro executione guerrae nostrae Franciae ad partes transmarinas in principio mensis Martii proximo fiituro proponimus, disponente Deo, transfretare; propter quod vobiscum et cum aliis praelatis et magnatibus regni nostri Angliae super passagio praedicto et aliis negotiis, nos et statum iusdem regni tangentibus colloquium habere volumus et tractatum; vobis in fide et dilectione quibus nobis tenemini firmiter iniungendo mandamus, quatenus omnibus aliis praetermissis et quacunque excusatione cessante, sitis apud Westmonasterium in crastino Purificationis Beatae Mariae Virginis proximo futuro [3 February 1346] nobiscum et cum ceteris praelatis et magnatibus praedictis super praemissis tractaturi, vestrumque consilium impensuri, et hoc sicut nos et honorem nostrum ac expeditionem praedictam diligitis, nullatenus omittatis. Teste meipso apud Rockingham vicesimo sexto Novembris anno regni nostri Angliae decimo nono et Franciae sexto [26 November 1345].

The archbishop's mandate for an episcopal council

Venerabili Wulstano, Dei gratia Wigorniensi episcopo, Radulphus, permissione divina Londoniensis episcopus, salutem et fraternam in Domino caritatem. Mandatum Domini Iohannis, Dei gratia archiepiscopi, nuper recepimus tenorem continens subsequentem:

Iohannes, permissione divina Cantuariensis archiepiscopus, totius Angliae primas et apostolicae sedis legatus, venerabili fratri nostro Radulpho, Dei gratia Londoniensi episcopo, Cantuariensis ecclesiae suffraganeo, salutem et fraternam in Domino caritatem. Ignis in nostris meditationibus nos exardescit quotidie dum Anglicanam Ecclesiam modernis temporibus per laicorum machinationes initas et minitas eis, tarn contra clericos quam contra libertates, iura et privilegia ecclesiastica dolosas insidias durius solito conspicimus infestari, intolerabilibus lacessiri iniuriis, eiusque iura et libertates undique concutiari. Unde nos volentes, ut tenemur, ad honorem Dei et ipsius ecclesiae suae, ope nobis possibili insurgere ex adverso pro depravitatibus huiusmodi corrigendis seu reformandis, prout nos angit eiusdem ecclesiae urgens necessitas ex causis praedictis magna et diligenti cum quibusdam nostris confratribus in ea parte deliberatione praehabita, et interpellation per ipsos nobis facta solicite omnes et singulos coepiscopos et confratres nostros fore decrevimus [96r] celeriter convocandos.

Quocirca fraternitati vestrae committimus et mandamus firmiter iniungentes, quatenus cum omni celeritate qua fieri poterit, citetis seu citari faciatis peremptorie venerabiles fratres nostros coepiscopos, electos confirmatos, et suffraganeos dictae nostrae Cantuariensis ecclesiae,
