Summary
In the Introduction, the volume editors overview the history and practice of global infectious disease research from around the beginning of the twentieth century to the present. They identify the norms of sharing that characterized this epoch, as well as the shifts in global geopolitics that gave rise to increased proprietary claims. With respect to the latter, they identify the major treaties and changes in international law that facilitated these shifts and/or accompanied them. They conclude with a chapter-by-chapter description of the contributions to follow.
