This is, incidentally, also the term suggested by Marx in the Communist Manifesto for the society emerging from the proletarian takeover. But for simplicity's sake, I have decided to follow Resnick's terminology and refer to the first stage of socialist society as described in the Critique of the Gotha Program as “co-operative society.”
