1 The records of the state archives for that period can now be freely used. Moreover, all the records of the Dokumentationsarchiv des österreichischen Widerstandes have always been available to scholars. The provincial archives have their own regulations, but some of them have given permission to visitors to examine materials dealing with the Nazi occupation. It should also be noted that numerous countries, such as Italy and France, have placed many more restrictions on the use of their archives than has Austria.
