Differential survival of British and Mediterranean strains of Pieris rapae (L.) (Lepidoptera: Pieridae) on different brassica cultivars

Abstract

In laboratory and field trials in the UK, larvae of Pieris rapae (L.) from the UK survived better than larvae from the Mediterranean region on Brussels sprouts, broccoli and field kale. A similar difference, associated with latitude, was found in Australia. The implications of these results are discussed.
