The material for this study is culled from the Epigraphia Zeylanica, and references are given to the various volumes in which the respective Inscriptions occur.
page 824 note 1 Therefore vavi (Vg. I, II, Pm.—second century A.D.; Jv.—third century A.D.) <vāpi and pati (Pkm., Tp.S.— second century A.D.; Jv.—third century A.D.) < prāpti- were actually vāvi and pāti [§ 50, 3] up to the fourth century A.D.; that the Umlaut occurred after this time in these two words is shown by the writing veva, peta (Ng.R.) in the sixth century A.D.
