Professor Bruchey was unable to attend but his comments were read by James P. Baughman.
The reviewer should not be blamed for important omissions. There were available at the conference only the rapports and a few mimeographed copies of the communications as they will be printed if published at all. Moreover, there were gaps in the collection of summaries of the communications made available in mimeographed form at the beginning of the conference, and a few of the summaries were not presented. This collection is the basis of the following report, unless the reviewer could rely on complete versions.
It should be understood that this report on Section I is geographically organized, since the topics overlapped. The reviewer tried to bring together what really belonged together.
In contrast to the earlier practice the communications will not be published in the conference record. Some of Section I will appear in the Journal of Economic History and the Business History Review. Others may appear elsewhere all over the globe.
All material made available at the conference has been deposited by the reviewer in Baker Library, Harvard University.
