THE ABDOMEN OF VANHORNIA EUCNEMIDARUM (HYMENOPTERA: PROCTOTRUPOIDEA)

Abstract

The invaginated apical abdominal segments of both sexes of Vanhornia eucnemidarum Crawford are described and illustrated for the first time. Detailed illustrations of the ovipositor and phallic structures are also given. No synapomorphy was found to associate Vanhornia and the Proctotrupidae, so because of its unique structure Vanhornia is left as an independent family of Proctotrupoidea.

Résumé

Les segments abdominaux apicaux invaginés des deux sexes de Vanhornia eucnemidarum Crawford sont décrits et illustrés pour la première fois. Des illustrations détaillées de l'ovipositeur et des structures phalliques sont également fournies. Aucune ressemblance morphologique ne permet d'associer Vanhornia aux Proctotrupidés. En raison de sa structure unique, Vanhornia est donc classée comme une famille indépendante de Proctotrupoïdés.
