CONTACT TOXICITIES OF 12 INSECTICIDES TO LEPTOGLOSSUS CORCULUS ADULTS (HEMIPTERA: COREIDAE)

Abstract

Contact toxicities of 12 insecticides to adult Leptoglossus corculus (Say) were determined. All insecticides tested were moderately to highly toxic to adult females. Five insecticides—decamethrin, carbofuran, aminocarb, fenvalerate, and bioethanomethrin—were as toxic or more toxic than the standard, azinphosmethyl, at LD90. Decamethrin (LD90 =.06 μg/g body wt.) was 29 times more toxic than azinphosmethyl at LD90. Five insecticides—carbofuran, bioethanomethrin, resmethrin, azinphosmethyl, and chlorpyrifos—were tested on males also. The first three were significantly more toxic to females than males and the latter two were equally toxic to both sexes. All but two insecticides, decamethrin and bioethanomethrin, were equally toxic or more toxic to second-stage nymphs than adult females.

La toxicité de contact de 12 insecticides envers les adultes de Leptoglossus corculus (Say) a été déterminée. Tous ces insecticides se sont avérés modérément à hautement toxiques pour les femelles adultes. Cinq des insecticides, la décamethrine, le carbofuran, l'aminocarb, le fenvalérate, et la bioéthanométhrine, se sont avérés aussi toxiques sinon plus que l'étalon utilisé, l'azinphosméthyl, pour la DL90. La décaméthrine (DL90 = 0.06 μg/g de poids corporel) s'est avérée 29 fois plus toxique que l'azinphosméthyl à la DL90. Cinq des insecticides, le carbofuran, la bioéthanométhrine, la resméthrine, l'azinphosméthyl et le chlorpyrifos, ont aussi été testés contre les mâles. Les 3 premiers se sont avérés significativement plus toxiques pour les femelles que les mâles, et les 2 derniers étaient également toxiques pour les 2 sexes. Tous sauf 2 des insecticides, la décaméthrine et la bioéthanométhrine étaient aussi toxiques sinon plus envers les larves de 2e stade que contre les femelles adultes.
