2 In 1986, Jane Doe was sexually assaulted in her apartment in Toronto. Police were aware that she was a likely target of the rapist but nonetheless failed to warn or otherwise protect her in any way. She subsequently successfully sued the Toronto police department for Charter violations and negligence for its failure to warn or protect her.
