page 100 note 1 In his Index, Schneider had already pointed this out. He says of Vind. If ‘Veterem vulgatam repraesentat et fere cum Stobaeo, Eusebio, etc. consentit.’ Being in the Index, this observation has been left unnoticed. I did not know of it myself till I had already worked out the problem. It shows that the theory of an ‘ancient vulgate’ is not so modern as is sometimes supposed.
