2. Title given by Prof.Du-hyon, Lee in his definitive work, Korean Masked Dance Drama, SeoulGoogle Scholar: Research Institute of Korean Mask Dance Dramas, 1973. Saennim was the name used to refer to a very timid, weak and bigoted person, usually of the noble or yangban class.
3. The mask of the character referred to as Om has multi-colored spots on it indicating a skin disease of some sort, perhaps scabies or boils. Lee Du-hyon refers to this character in English as the boil monk.
