page iii note * At the Meeting of the Society, on the 5th January 1857, when the reduction of the Contributions from £3, 3s., to £2, 2s., from the 11th to the 25th year of membership, was adopted, it was resolved that the existing Members shall share in this reduction, so far as regards their future Contributions.

A modification of this rule, in certain cases, was agreed to 3d January 1831.

page iv note * “ A. B., a gentleman well versed in Science (or Polite Literature, as the ease may be), being to our knowledge desirous of becoming a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, we hereby recommend him as deserving of that honour, and as likely to prove a useful and valuable Member.”
