page 759 note * A modification of this rule, in certain cases, was agreed to at a Meeting of the Society held on the 3rd January 1831.

At the Meeting of the Society, on the 5th January 1857, when the reduction of the Contributions from £3, 3s. to £2, 2s., from the 11th to the 25th year of membership, was adopted, it was resolved that the existing Members shall share in this reduction, so far as regards their future annual Contributions.

B., a gentleman well versed in Science (or Polite Literature, as the case may be), being “to our knowledge desirous of becoming a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, we hereby “recommend him as deserving of that honour, and as likely to prove a useful and valuable Member.”

page 761 note * We hereby recommend for the distinction of being made an Honorary Fellow of this Society, declaring that each of us from our own knowledge of his services to (Literature or Science, as the case may be) believe him to be worthy of that honour.
