The success of detecting Mycobacterium tuberculosis in milk by microscopic examination of samples from each quarter of the udder and the use of this method in rapidly eliminating from a herd those cows which were excreting tubercie bacilli has been reported (Maitland, 1937). The advantages from the clinical point of view with illustrative clinical data have been recorded by Locke (1937), who collaborated in the investigation.
