Dust and Obscuration in the Milky Way

Abstract

A detailed knowledge about the galactic extinction is mandatory to obtain the astrophysical/kinematical parameters timevariation outside the solar neighbourhood. One may hope that the GAIAphotometry itself will contribute to colour excess determinations formost of the sample otherwise the extinction must be deduced fromexternal sources. 3D galactic models where the dust distribution is anintegral part seems a viable solution.
