Resumen

El topiramato es un agente antiepiléptico que se está investigando como estabilizador del estado de ánimo. Tres individuos obesos con trastorno bipolar I del DSM-IV y diabetes mellitus de tipo 2 recibieron tratamiento de topiramato en combinación con antipsicóticos y valproato o carbamacepina. Además de un aumento en la estabilidad del estado de ánimo, estos individuos perdieron el 16-20,5% de su peso corporal anterior al topiramato y lograron también un control glucémico significativo.
