After the outbreak of a new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) on 31 December 2019 in Wuhan (China), an increasing amount of information and concerns are impacting global mental health. It is already evident that apart from physical suffering, the direct and indirect psychological and social effects of COVID-19 pandemic are pervasive and could affect mental health now and in the future.

The central aim of our study was to investigate the prevalence of common mental disorders in populations during Covid-19 outbreak. The study was done in 3 different countries (Albania, India, Iran) which gave us the opportunity to compare our findings and to have a bigger view of the impact of COVID-19 in individuals.

A Cross-sectional online survey was done across countries. We used demographic questions and different scales: Corona Anxiety Scale (CAS), The Obsession with COVID-19 Scale (OCS), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) to evaluate psycho-social impact during covid.

We collected 469 responses in Albania, 442 responses in India and 402 responses in Iran. According to the data we found that symptoms of anxiety related with corona and obsession with corona were higher in Iran compared with the two other countries. Insomnia problems were also more frequent in Iran were only 16,66% of participants reported no insomnia, compared with 42,0% in Albania and 63,12% in India.

The emergence of mental health (MH) problems during a pandemic is extremely common, though difficult to address due to the complexities of pandemics.

On February 26, 2020 the Greek government established measures against the spread of COVID-19, which eventually escalated to the entire social and economic ‘lockdown’ of the state on March 23. The main message was staying home and protect the eldest who are more vulnerable to the virus.

The aim of the present study was to test the effect of living with a vulnerable person to specific psychological factors in order to be able to create future interventions for psychological well-being of the population.

A convenient sample of 1,158 Greeks (280 males [24.2%] participated electronically during the ‘lockdown. A battery of questionnaires for stress resilience, acute stress, and satisfaction with life, well-being and effect on psychosocial health was used for the study. Analysis was performed with SPSS 24.

Individuals living in the same house with a vulnerable partner of parent were found to have statistically significant higher levels in acute stress disorder (Μ=39,4±15,4) than those living without (M=37.7±15.5) (t1156=2.125 p=0.03)The same happened with the effect on psychological health with the first Group having significantly higher score in the questionnaire (M=76.6±56,9) than the second group (M=69.1±55.1) (t1156=2.330 p=0.02). Stress resilience, satisfaction with life and well-being were not affected.

According to our data individuals living in the same house with a vulnerable person for COVID-19 are more likely to develop acute stress and psychosocial impact. Stress reduction programs are needed in order to help this population with managing the results of the lockdown.

The COVID-19 outbreak resulted in two respective social and economic lockdowns in Greece. According to international findings pressure and instability may lead to the sense of losing control over the situation, and in retrospect to the escalation of psychosomatic symptoms for the general population.

The present study examines whether five socio-demographic variables are significant to the variance of psychosomatic symptoms of the Greek population between the two domestic lockdowns.

192 participants, of whom 141 were females(73.4%) and 51 males(26.6%), provided their answers between October 5 and November 18, 2020 to the research team of the Psychiatric Unit of the General Public Hospital of Nikaia, ‘Ayios Panteleimon’, in Athens, Greece. The participants were asked about their (i)‘income’, (ii)‘occupation’, (iii)‘residence’, (iv)‘marital status’ and (v)‘education’. Psychosomatic symptoms were measured through the self-reported PSSQ-29 tool (Cronbach’s alpha= .955).

Out of the five One-way Between-participants ANOVAs, none of the five socio-demographic variables showed any significant statistical difference in the level of psychosomatic symptoms.

The study provides some evidence against the protective and harmful role of the socio-demographic variables in psychosomatic health. It is noteworthy, that the conditions were not similar with previous studies. It might be possible that the COVID-19 worked as a phenomenon of mass panic for the Greek sample, and thus no socio-demographic background was either protective or harmful. In conclusion, the present study clearly highlights that none of them had any significant effect to the variance of psychosomatic symptoms for the general population.

Covid-19 pandemic represents a sanitary crisis with social, economic and political negative impacts. Studies had well established the link between stress and the display or maintenance of addictive behaviour. Measures like social distancing and confinement imposed by governments during this pandemic, could explain an outbreak of internet addiction cases.

Assess the prevalence of internet addiction in times of the covid-19 pandemic and to study its relationship with personal and family factors but also with the psychiatric comorbidities.

We conducted a cross sectional analytical study during the period of the covid-19 pandemic, using an internet survey exploring socio-demographic and clinical data: through Hamilton depression and anxiety rating scale and the Rosenberg self esteem scale. The assessment of internet addiction was carried out using Young’s Internet Addiction test.

Our study included 150 users, the average age was 36 years, mainly made up of women, married, having children, with a good socioeconomic level and of university education. The prevalence of depressive and anxious symptoms were respectively 7.3% and 18.7%. The prevalence of internet addiction in our study was 9.4% including 0.7% having severe repercussions. Being married (p<10-3) and having children (p=0.006) were considered as protective factors against internet addiction. People having an internet addiction were at bigger risk of having low self esteem (p=0.023), depressive (p=0.04) and anxious symptoms (p<10-3).

Internet addiction is a new concept, though it’s impact on the well being is well established and it’s likely to worsen in times of pandemic. Therefore, it’s necessary to take preventive measures to deal with it.

The COVID-19 pandemic may bear serious consequences for mental health, such as the increase in psychopathological symptoms.

Analysis of changes in depressive suicidal ideation symptoms and during the COVID-19. Depressive symptoms and suicidality were considered separately.

Internet survey 22.03.20–22.06.20 (908 responses), included SCL-90R, COPE, question about suicidal ideation.

The analysis showed a positive correlation between suicidal thoughts and depression (Spearman .45; p<.001), a growing trend in the depressive symptoms (Std.J-T=2.51, p=.012), and the increase in severity of suicidal thoughts (Fisher’s Exact Test, 5.92, p=.046). Severity of depression positively correlates with the emergence of the virus in the city, contraction of disease among friends (Spearman .165; p<.001), sick and die fears, an also is linked to more expressed seeking «emotional, social and instrumental help» (COPE). The intensity of suicidal ideation was not associated with these factors, but negatively correlated with «acceptance» and «planning».

The increase in depressive symptoms and suicidal thoughts is determined by different factors. Depressive symptoms is associated with various fears and mediated by non-constructive ways of coping, but there are also constructive coping-strategies as the search for help. The intensity of suicidal thoughts is associated with higher levels of stress, which cannot be explained by the «objective» threat of contagion and fears, but is experienced as an «indefinite» anxiety, supposedly linked to the measures to counter the pandemic, such as restrictions on social interactions, loneliness and uncertainty. The increase in depressive symptoms is linked with an orientation to another person, but the suicidal ideation is not.

The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) health emergency has led national states to adopt severe actions forcing many people to cope with new and unexpected challenges. Those constraints risked to jeopardized the mental health and subjective wellbeing (SWB) of individuals.

The present cross-sectional quantitative study explored whether and to what extent psychological and social aspects were determinants of parental SWB as outcome variable during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The sample was composed of 304 Italian parents (93% female, mean age 41.5, 91% from Lombardy). Data were gathered through Computer Assisted Web Interview (CAWI) four weeks after the beginning of the national lockdown. World Health Organization (WHO) wellbeing scale along with other self-reported measures of social support, feelings of abandonment, feeling of being equipped and adequacy of living spaces were administered. Data were analyzed by hierarchical regression models (Ethics Committee of Milano-Bicocca University approval N.0034537/20)

According to the WHO cutoff score, 37.7% of parents reported low well-being levels. The regression model (F=11.2, p<.001) suggested that the feeling of abandonment and the feeling of being equipped were the most important contributors to SWB. Other statistically significant (but with lower effect sizes) variables were the support received by the partner and the adequacy of living spaces.

The findings bear out the pivotal importance of subjective states (such as feelings of abandonment or perceptions of being poorly equipped) in relation to the levels of parental SWB during the COVID-19 lockdown. Implications for planning psychological interventions aimed at strengthening personal resources to face the emergency are discussed.

The presence of psychological impact on relatives of patients admitted for Covid-19 has been described. The effectiveness of psychological first aid in critical situations has also been described. The first psychological aid describes a human response supporting another person who is suffering. This intervention is indicated for those affected by a traumatic event.

To present a theoretical review about psychological first aid and to describe data about it on relatives of patients admitted for Covid-19.

Literature review about psychological first aid and data description of telephone intervention carried out by mental health professionals on family members of patients admitted for Covid-19.

From an initial pool of 77 Covid-19 patients, 50 were selected as telephone contact with relatives was possible. Mean age was 68.9 years, 13 were female and 37 male. 90% were admitted in internal medicine department and 10% in intensive care unit. First telephone intervention in all cases was to introduce the psychiatrist in charge of the follow-up and provide contact number of psychiatry department. In 13 relatives` support, emotional ventilation and active listening was provided and 2 of them also received therapeutic guidelines. Further phone contact was required in 12 relatives. In follow-up phone calls, all relatives received therapeutic guidelines and 3 was referred to our outpatient clinic.

Family members of patients admitted for covid-19 may present emotional symptoms, many of them normal reactions in context of a crisis situation. A large percentage do not require a structured psychotherapeutic intervention but can benefit from a first psychological help.

In pathologies with clinical characteristics similar to SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia, most patients showed cognitive deficits after discharge from ICU. In particular, previous studies describe impairment on verbal learning among PICS patients.

To analyse the immediate verbal-learning performance in patients with PICS after COVID-19 infection in a Functional Rehabilitation Unit in Madrid (Spain) using the Spanish version of the Screen for Cognitive Impairment in Psychiatry (SCIP-S).

This study was conducted in the Hospital Central de la Cruz Roja, in Madrid (Spain). A sample of 17 PICS adult patients was included, with age ranging from 56 to 74 years old (mean = 68.35 years; 13 males). Patients were assessed around three weeks after referral from their reference hospital. The Verbal Learning Test-Immediate (VLT-I) of the SCIP-S was used as outcome. Descriptive analyses were conducted (mean and standard deviation) on standardized scores (z) based on age-adjusted general population norms. Significant impairment was set at z < -1.5.

Mean z-score on VLT-I was -1.08 (S.D. = .80) from the total sample, with 33.3% of cases with significant impairment (mean = -1.81; S.D. = .20).

These preliminary results show the probable presence of mild-moderate impairment on immediate verbal learning in a subgroup of patients, which was already observed in PICS patients with other medical conditions. Longitudinal studies, with larger samples, are needed where the premorbid cognitive level is considered.

Mean total z-score on SCIP-S was -1.08 (S.D. = .82) from the total sample, with 52.9% of cases with significant impairment (mean = -1.74; S.D. = .21).

These preliminary results show the probable presence of mild-moderate global cognitive impairment in a relevant proportion of patients after COVID-19 infection. Longitudinal studies, with larger samples, are needed where the premorbid cognitive level is considered.

In India, Coronavirus pandemic started in the month of march 2020 and is growing day by day. In view of India being one of the most populous countries, it is hard to follow social distancing and abide by the lockdown rules. Therefore, as of December 2020, total number of covid-19 cases has crossed the 10 million. But the recovery rate in India is high, so the fear due to Covid-19 has decreased in intensity.

30 Patients of diagnosed Covid-19 positive,who were isolated in covid care setting in Uttar Pradesh(India),above 18yrs of age,of both sexes and willing to participate in the study were included, their socio-demographic data collected. Beck’s hopelessness scale and Perceived stress scale were administered. Infection severity upto moderate was selected and ICU patients were excluded. Results were analysed using SPSS software.

It was observed that level of hopelessness increased with increasing age and increasing severity of covid-19.Level of perceived stress also increased with increasing age and increasing covid severity. There was no relation seen between hopelessness level and perceived stress level and no difference was seen in the levels of hopelessness and perceived stress between the two sexes.

Patients with severe mental illness experience physical health inequities. They are less likely to receive preventative care and adequate treatment for physical illnesses. Physical health screening of patients receiving antipsychotics is usually carried out every six months. This comprises screening bloodwork and ECGs, and the sharing of results with family physicians.

We sought to investigate whether the pandemic affected the receipt of routine physical health screening in patients managed by an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Service.

A comprehensive chart review was performed on 62 ACT patients. We compared the receipt of screening bloodwork and ECGs from March—December 2020 to the same period in 2019. Results were analyzed using McNemar’s Chi square test with Yates’ correction.

Patients were less likely to have received an ECG during the pandemic period. 69% received an ECG from March—December 2019 versus 42% from March—December 2020 (χ2= 7.76, p<0.01). Similarly, patients were less likely to have received screening bloodwork during the pandemic period (69% vs. 50%, Χ2= 4.32, p<0.05). Qualitative discussion with ACT staff regarding the 39 patients who had not received an ECG and/or bloodwork during the pandemic period revealed system-related (8%), patient-related (23%), and Covid-related (69%) barriers to screening. Covid-related barriers included transport concerns and lab closures.

ACT patients were less likely to have received routine health screening during the Covid-19 pandemic. Thus, the pandemic may have exacerbated physical health inequities for patients with severe mental illness. Covid-related barriers to screening represent an important target for intervention.

COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown has brought a serious impact on physical and mental health.

The purpose of the present study was to estimate the impact of the first lockdown in Greece, on both quality of life and anxiety levels in different occupational groups.

A cross-sectional on- line survey was conducted from 20th of April to 4th of May 2020. A 24-item anonymous questionnaire was administered to collect basic demographic and socioeconomic data. The 5-item WHO Well-Being Index (WHO-5, 0-100%, cut-off 52%) and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Assessment (GAD-7) tools were used to assess well-being and anxiety, respectively. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS for Windows v.24.0 Statistical Package.

A total of 575 participated in the study, 62.8% females, 48.5% aged between 40 to 59 years. 32.5% were employed in education sector, 32.5% in health sector and 20.3% as season workers in tourism sector. Males showed slightly higher levels of wellbeing (52.1 vs. 47.3, p=0.023) and lower levels of anxiety (7.1 vs. 8.2, p=0.023) compared to females. Factors associated with higher wellbeing and lower anxiety were higher education and income level, optimism, taking less protection measures, and being seasonal worker. Furthermore, participants with comorbidities and symptoms like headache, musculoskeletal pain, as well as feeling depressed or stressed revealed lower wellbeing and higher anxiety scores.

Our study revealed an overall poor wellbeing and mild to moderate levels of anxiety during the lockdown. Actions should be taken to address and to prevent its serious impact on mental health.

During the pandemic, many surveys studied people’s attitude to COVID-19. However, less information is available about the peculiarities of such attitude of the most vulnerable groups including chronic somatic patients who are in need of operative treatment.

To identify the specificity of preoperative cardiac surgery patients’ attitudes toward COVID-19 as compared to that of healthy people.

We used the Attitudes towards COVID-19 questionnaire (Nikolaev E.) to survey 60 preoperative cardiac patients and 327 healthy university students. Difference validity was assessed with significance level of p<0.05.

Cardiac patients are more likely to trust the government measures to fight COVID-19 (t=3.131; p=.002), and their COVID-19-related fears for their life are higher (t=2.793; p=.005). As compared to healthy people, patients are less likely to think that pandemic broke their customary way of life (t=-2.793; p=.005) and plans for the future (t=-3.337; p=.000). Credibly more often than healthy people, cardiac surgery patients consider that it is useless to wear a mask and limit contacts, as any person will eventually catch the virus (t=2.401; p=.017). We did not reveal any more evidently expressed COVID-19-related anxiety in preoperative cardiac surgery patients.

Attitudes of cardiac surgery patients toward COVID-19 manifest in an adequate assessment of threat to their personal health, trust in the government measures, and readiness to change their daily plans. It is latent fatalistic ideas about ultimate uselessness of restrictive measures that pose threat to people’s own health and the health of the people around them, which health professionals should remember in their preventive actions.

In the period of Covid-19 both adults and children have a great number of the most varied negative social and psychological factors.

The study of the necessity of telemedicine technologies for child and teenage psychiatric service.

During two month, parents of 128 children, aged 3-18, have applied for consultative help to the Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Narcology of the Ural State Medical University.

In total, the number of consultations has grown by 23% compared to the same period of the previous year. The greatest number was connecting with emotional and behavioral disturbances that usually begin in childhood – 23.0%, neurotic connected with stress and somatoform disorder – 21.1%, and affective disorders –14.1%. The least amount of cases were of children and teenagers with psychiatric diagnoses: disorders of a schizophrenic character – 7% and the mentally retarded – 6.2%. These data points that the limitation of the possibility of receiving a psychiatric consultation in person did not lessen the number of instances when parents of children and teenagers applied for help. On the contrary, this period showed a growth of the number of parents who applied for help, mainly due to the increase in the proportion of anxiety and phobia disturbances, plus behavioral disruptions. At this, the number of neurotic cases connected with stress and somatoform disturbances in children increased by 92.0%, whereas emotional and behavioral disturbances that usually begin in childhood increased by 45.0%.

Thus, telemedicine technologies in child psychiatry have proved to be an effective and necessary means.

After the first case of Covid-19 was emerged in Turkey on March 11, 2020, schools were closed distance education began. On March 21, curfew was declared for people who under the age of 20. Subsequently, the date of the nationwide university exam was changed twice.

This study has two aims. The first goal was to investigate the factors that affect the test anxiety of individuals who will enter the university exam during the Covid-19 outbreak. The second aim was to investigate whether the test anxiety levels of the participants vary according to the level of cognitive flexibility and self-regulation.

The study consists of 420 (284 women, 131 men and 5 others). The age range of the participants was between 18 and 21, with the mean of 18.33. Exam Anxiety Scale, Adolescent Self-Regulation Skills Scale and Cognitive Flexibility Scale were used to collect data.

The findings indicated that women’s level of test anxiety was higher than men. Those who do have concentration issues in distance education have high level of test anxiety. Test anxiety was higher for students whose household income decreased because of the pandemic. MANOVA results revealed that individuals with low test anxiety have higher ‘self-regulation successful’ scores and lower ‘self-regulation unsuccessful’ scores. Moreover, it was yielded that people with low test anxiety have higher level of cognitive flexibility.

Protective factors such as cognitive flexibility and self-regulation play an important role in individuals’ management of test anxiety.

In connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection, a lockdown was introduced everywhere in the Russian Federation, the main psychological feature of which is social deprivation - the deprivation or restriction of social habitual real interactions.

Describe clinical and psychological manifestations in children in the context of COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

During the period from June to September 2020, parents of 108 children of early, preschool and school age applied for advice. Children are divided into two groups: I -children with previously established mental disorders; II - children who have not previously been observed for developmental disorder by a psychiatrist.

The need to locate critical patients in spaces intended for anesthesia, where we usually administered ECT, has forced us to decrease the number of procedures and be highly selective.
